Episode 10 - Failing Forward

This episode follows Michael as he rebuilds after rock bottom, choosing to go back to school to become a writer despite doubts from those around him. He starts his journey in adult basic education, feeling out of place. But slowly he builds real skill and confidence. Along the way, he faces medical challenges and reconnects with his roots by learning a new skill that his grandfather and uncle once enjoyed. The episode ends with a turning point — the start of his writing program at University of Washington.

Episode 9 - Card Towers

In this episode, Michael reflects on the struggle of trying to build something from nothing — no money, no credit, and no safety net. He shares the constant pressure of running a business while broke, where expenses pile up faster than progress and every decision feels one step away from collapse. As the financial strain deepens, his marriage begins to quietly unravel. His wife grows distant, losing faith in him as a provider and ultimately forming a relationship with someone else. At the same time, Michael faces the loss of his grandfather to COPD, stripping away what little stability remained. This episode brings Michael to his lowest point — when everything he was holding together finally gives way.

Episode 8 - Downtimes

In the shadow of the 2008 recession, Michael loses his job and slips into a level of poverty he wasn’t prepared for. This episode focuses on the fight for survival — financially, emotionally, and psychologically — as stability disappears. Amid it all, he faces the violent loss of his uncle in a police incident, a moment that leaves a lasting impact. By the end of the episode, he’s at a turning point, deciding to start a new company just to try to stay afloat.

Episode 7 - Homecoming

After returning home from Mexico, Michael set out to build a real life from the ground up. With little more than momentum and determination, he stepped into adulthood faster than he ever expected — landing a job at a mental hospital, learning to navigate constant chaos, and beginning a relationship that quickly grew into something serious. This episode follows that stretch of rapid change — where responsibility starts to feel real, stability begins to take shape, and life finally seems to be moving forward. But just as things begin to settle, cracks start to form beneath the surface. By the end of the episode, everything Michael thought was solid is on the verge of being tested.
