ON THE HOUSE: ON THE ROAD with ALASTAIR CAMPBELL and guest host CLIVE TYLDESLEY

“Hello! Hello! Here we go…” In an On the House first, Dr Phillip Lee is in the hot seat along with returning guest Alastair Campbell - asking the questions this week is one of the most recognisable voices in Britain, veteran football commentator Clive Tyldesley. He was in the commentator's box during the Champions League Final in 2005, and during England's defeat to Iceland at Euro 2016, only the second worst British-based national embarrassment of that year. Three points for guessing the first. He’s one of many in the game who refuse to just “stick to football” and is a strong supporter of a People’s Vote. He lives in the constituency Phillip hopes to win at the election - and believes the media has let the public down over Brexit. He asks Phillip and Alastair how we got to this point, and where we might go from here. Thanks to The George pub in Winnersh, and to Phillip's potential constituents who gave us another On The House first - spontaneous applause once the recording wrapped. Audio production by Alex Rees. RISKY BUSINESS with guest David Henig

On The House is back in Westminster this week after a trip up the Westway to Kensington. Dr Philip Lee is away, so Sam takes the wheel. After Jeremy Corbyn and Boris Johnson’s ITV debate, are we any closer to knowing who’ll step into Number 10 on Friday, December 13th? Sam is joined by trade policy expert David Henig, who provides a dose of realism to the Brexit debate in his capacity as the director of the UK Trade Policy Project at the European Centre for International Political Economy. “They’re asking how we can get this trade deal done quickly,” says David. “Perhaps we should be asking how to get it done right…” Sam and David also discuss the freshly launched Lib Dem manifesto, and who they’d want in the fantasy trade negotiators team. Mourinho does not get a look in. Thanks to the Hamptons Bar in near St James’ Park for hosting us this week. Audio production and scripting by Alex Rees. Producer: Andrew Harrison. THROUGH THE CAMPAIGN BARRIER with guest Vince Cable

As Election 2019 gets more intense and even more unpleasant, Phillip Lee and Sam Gyimah head into West London for a drink with a true heavyweight of the Lib Dems –Sir Vince Cable, former leader of the party, Secretary of State for Business, outgoing Twickenham MP and light-footed ballroom dancing legend. What wisdom can he impart to these two new Lib Dem candidates? Plus: Who’s having the worst General Election campaign so far: the Conservatives or Labour? Have the Lib Dems finally shaken off the burden of the Coalition? Just how volatile is the electorate? And is Boris Johnson the election winner that the Conservatives think he is? “People can see Johnson is a rogue,” says Vince. “Once people see they’re being offered two fairly unattractive options, I think they’ll turn to us in numbers.” Special thanks to the wonderful staff of The Prince [https://www.theprincelondon.com/] in West Brompton for looking after us. Splendid drinks and excellent street food on the doorstep of the constituency Sam hopes to win in December (we recommend the rosemary fries from onsite burger vendor Patty & Bun). episode SCIENCE FRICTION with guest Mike Galsworthy artwork
SCIENCE FRICTION with guest Mike Galsworthy

It’s a one-to-one pint after Parliament this week. Mike Galsworthy – Final Say vote champion, founder of Scientists For EU and rock star of Remain – joins Phillip Lee for a drink, a political head-to-head on what a Brexit election means for the NHS and science policy… and the obligatory ton of dry-roast peanuts. This week: The car-crash of Conservative Campaign Week One. How Brexit really could put Britain at the back of the queue for vital new drug launches – and cost us an extra £10bn. Will the country buy a spending splurge from the main parties or the Lib Dems’ Remain bonus? And how the single rudest MP that Phillip ever encountered is now his election opponent in Wokingham: the hard Brexiter John Redwood. “People who are hard up and resentful of the world around them, often rightly so, they care about who has their back,” says Mike. “Nurses, doctors, the police… these people have their back. We need to convince people that science has their back.” Hold tight, regular listeners. Sam Gyimah will be back next week. Audio production by Alex Rees. Producer: Andrew Harrison. episode ELECTION 2019: INTO BATTLE plus guest Dominic Grieve MP artwork
ELECTION 2019: INTO BATTLE plus guest Dominic Grieve MP

As the Election Battle is finally joined, MPs Sam Gyimah and Phillip Lee are joined for a pre-poll pint by their former Conservative colleague Dominic Grieve - the Parliamentary giant who put his career on the line to hold back No Deal, and ensure that Parliament got a Meaningful Say on Brexit. Dominic Grieve is now running as an independent in Beaconsfield, and Sam’s standing in Kensington. How will these experienced MPs handle a General Election where all the rules have been torn up? Plus: Is Boris Johnson’s election punt a gamble too far? Is the abuse that has driven many MPs out of Parliament really representative of what British voters think? What sort of election campaign are we in for? Who will we miss from the Parliament of 2017-2019? Who’s going to win the rugby? And Dominic eats the most enormous sausage sandwich you’ve ever seen. “The Tory Remain vote is 4-5 million and if they want to Remain, they’ve can’t vote Conservative. It’s that simple.” Audio production by Robin Leeburn and Alex Rees. Producer: Andrew Harrison. Theme music: ‘The Wind-Up’ by Brian Lipps, under licence from premiumbeat.com [http://premiumbeat.com].
