How do we define freedom? Who does it belong to? This bonus episode platforms a poem I (Dr. Queen G) wrote in honor of Frederick Douglass' famous speech "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?" I was one of several talented Black creatives who contributed to this extended project, "Hope in the Ever-living Now", a collaboration with @providenceact and @providencepubliclibrary. This piece is special to me and I'm grateful for the opportunity to dive into the profound and ever-relevant word of Douglass. As someone who personally decided to observe Juneteenth exclusively and often asks myself and those in my community what Independence Day means to us, this felt like a divine alignment.
