Following the history, the Howard University Choir performs what is today considered the "Black National Anthem." "Lift Every Voice and Sing" was originally written as a poem in 1900 by James Weldon Johnson, a prominent African American writer and NAACP leader, and set to music by his brother, J. Rosamond Johnson in 1905. The song was first performed by a choir of 500 schoolchildren at the segregated Stanton School in Jacksonville, Florida, to celebrate President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. #juneteenth #deuces #pinellascountyurbanleague #tampabay #radio #radiostpete
