episode S2 Ep2177: ARTS Margo Hammond & Avery Anderson, Tampa Bay Arts Passport cover

Beskrivelse

Margo Hammond invited Avery Anderson, founder of Tampa Bay Arts Passport [https://www.tbartspassport.com/] to studio, and we learned about his newest project that both supports the arts and multimedia arts journalism, including podcasts! Tampa Bay is home to world-class museums, renowned theaters, and thriving music venues. Yet, over the past decade, arts journalism has been cut from major news outlets, leaving a gap in the way people connect with local culture. We believe people don’t just want to read about the arts—they want to engage with them. The Tampa Bay Arts Passport is more than just another publication. It’s a community-driven, subscription-based program that gives you access to exclusive discounts at arts venues while delivering in-depth journalism, features, and editorial content that bring the arts to life.  (Seen here: Avery Anderson, Maggie Duffy & Margo Hammond) #arts #averyanderson #tampabayartspassport #supporthearts #margohammond

episode S2 Ep2176: JACK KEROUAC HOUSE The Beat Goes On! History, Tours, Events & The Legend cover

S2 Ep2176: JACK KEROUAC HOUSE The Beat Goes On! History, Tours, Events & The Legend

Lunchtime Conversation host Nanette Wiser loves the Beat Generation and Jack Kerouac, so it was thrilling to have the non-profit organization that runs Disston Height's Jack Kerouac house [https://stpetekerouachouse.com/] in studio at THRIVE DTSP. English/Humanities professor and Board President Ken Burchenal to talk about the history of the house, the organization's efforts to save and refresh Kerouac's last residence (with his mother and 3rd wife) and learn about the monthly poetry, storytelling open mics and concerts (Craftsman Gallery owner Jeff Schorr is involved with some upcoming musical performances and a board member). "Your first thought is your best thought" Kerouac mantra and his fall from King of the Beats to St. Pete anonymity to the current resurgence of popularity is inspiring. From Tiffany Razzano's banned books event to the chance to stay overnight in Kerouac's room intrigued us, as did Spirits of St. Pete's Brandi Stark's upcoming stay there (paranormal activity?) caught our attention.  For events, follow them on social. [https://www.facebook.com/KerouacHouseStPete] MORE KEROUAC NEWS In a landmark moment for American literary history and the City of Lowell, Zach Bryan has acquired Jack Kerouac’s original On the Road scroll, The Dharma Bums scroll and a collection of personal letters, at Christie’s auction.  These extraordinary works, which are deeply tied to Kerouac’s life, voice, and legacy, will ultimately be housed and publicly displayed in Lowell, Massachusetts, Kerouac’s hometown, as part of the Jack Kerouac Center. #jackkerouac #authors #beatgeneration #ontheroad #kenBurchenal #nanettewiser #literaryhistory #stpete #stpetefl  #tampabay #radio #radiostpete #cityofstpete  #dtsp #downtownstpete
