episode Season 4, Ep. 12: Joe Dirt cover

Season 4, Ep. 12: Joe Dirt

"Hey! You're talking bout our (podcast) all wrong. It's the wrong tone. Do it again, and we'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron." That hilarious quote, belted out by the iconic Christopher Walken, may be the high point of the firework-filled fan-selected-film "Joe Dirt" that we are tackling today; but there might just be more to this movie than meets the eye. Written by David Spade, who also stars as the titular Joe Dirte, this flick marked Spade's first foray into leading man status. It was a gargantuan Chris Farley sized shadow that Spade had to step out of, but the themes of positivity and perseverance have prompted some folks over the years to label "Joe Dirt" as a cult classic. Do your Reel Poppycock hosts assign the same cult classic credentials to this movie? You'll just have to tune in to find out! Hopefully everyone comes out of the holiday weekend with the same amount of fingers with which they started, and as long as you don't practice blind patriotism, we will wish you all a celebratory 4th of July too. Now if only everyone in the United States treated others the way that Joe Dirt treats people...     00:01:38 The Fans asked for it, Finally Time for us to get (Joe) Dirty 00:04:40 Reel Basic Facts 00:07:40 Six Degrees of Poppycock with Director Dennie Gordon 00:15:44 Fly On the Wall observing David Spade's Dating History 00:21:14 Why do People Rock with that Song, Ed? 00:23:31 Poppycock (non-pop) Quiz 00:31:20 Dirt Bag Analytics 00:37:02 Continuity Confusion for the Timeline of Joe Dirt 00:51:38 Charlie is Busting Chekov's Nut 00:54:32 Wacked Out on Pesticides like "Naked Lunch" 00:56:47 Trevor's Fire Fueled Wedding Memory 00:59:24 KC's Game - Name this Firework 01:01:29 Sorry Honey I Can't Chip in for the Rent this Month... 01:12:28 Joe Dirt was Banging his Sister before it was Cool 01:21:37 Ed has always had a thing for Rosanna Arquette 01:27:17 Live Find of Timeline Poppycock 01:32:00 Poppycock Round-Up       {credit to all respective artists for song clips used in this episode, all rights reserved} - "Aint Seen Nothing Yet" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive; album - Not Fragile; label - Mercury - "Who Do You Love" by George Thorogood & The Destroyers; album - Move It On Over; label - Rounder Records - "Burning For You" by Blue Oyster Cult; album - Fire of Unknown Origin; label - CBS-Records     Still frame movie images for the slide show provided by: fancaps.net       Instagram: @reelpoppycock YouTube: Reel Poppycock Host K.C. @dangerbrewer on Instagram Host Ed Lanier @edlaniermusic on Instagram Host Trevor Boland (He is old, find him on Facebook)

Season 4, Ep. 11: A Soldier's Story

In honor of Juneteenth, today Reel Poppycock covers the 1984 film "A Soldier's Story." Charles Fuller adapted the screenplay from his own Pulitzer Award winning "A Soldier's Play," and it was directed by Norman Jewison. "A Soldier's Story" stars Howard E. Rollins Jr. and Adolph Caesar, also featuring early career turns from Denzel Washington, Robert Townsend, David Alan Greer, and more.     00:01:10 Sorry Joe Dirt Fans, we are covering that film on the Next Episode 00:02:54 Reel Basic Facts 00:13:37 Et Tu, Adolph Caesar? 00:18:40 Poppycock (non-pop) Quiz 00:24:22 Plot Points Provided by Ed 00:35:48 Davenport Doubletake Dooby-Doo 00:49:11 Denzel Accent Awareness Hour - Jamaican vs Southern 00:59:57 Why do they call him 'Jimmy One Leg,' Ed? 01:05:43 Bulge or Shadow? episode Season 4, Ep. 10: Overlord cover

Season 4, Ep. 10: Overlord

On June 6th, 1944 the Allied invasion of nazi-occupied France took place, known colloquially as D-Day. This mission was also referred to as Operation Overlord, and Reel Poppycock is honoring that important WWII event on its 82nd anniversary by covering the 2018 film "Overlord." Trevor considers himself an amateur World War 2 buff, and he was all too excited to cover another movie set during D-Day, as the Poppycock crew tackled "Saving Private Ryan" on this same date last year. "Overlord" is not the same type of genre re-defining classic that "Saving Private Ryan" is, but it is a semi-hidden gem, and well worth the watch. This podcast episode also delves deep into some lesser known aspects of true evil that the Axis countries of Germany and Japan would employ, while not sugarcoating some choices made by the Allies. "Overlord" depicts Airborne troops, who have to fly through anti-aircraft fire, and then parachute into hostile territory. There is a lot of adherence to real historical events, but this movie *does* depict alternative history, and would that alternative version history prove too much to keep Ed from fully enjoying the film? And does KC think that Wyatt Russell, the son of their favorite Meat Shield, can pull off the same type of Meat Shielding as his Pops? You'll just have to tune in to find out! A friendly reminder that one can remain vehemently against the military industrial complex, while still honoring the personal sacrifices of the troops. Peace, and cheers!     00:02:32 Reel Basic Facts 00:06:50 Ed isn't Smellin' what Pacino was Cookin' in "Scent of a Woman" 00:16:14 Trevor's WWII Historical Perspective 00:23:56 Bent Off Good Wine Like Who? 00:27:10 Poppycock (non-pop) Quiz 00:34:47 Chloe is Smoke, and RZA says "Bong Bong," what's new? 00:39:15 Alternate History features Integrated Airborne Units 00:46:38 KC Drops a Lil Poppycock 00:52:30 Un-Flappable Captain Bad America gets all up in dem Weird Guts 01:03:14 The Turn Awaits 01:12:27 Our Protagonists get Defiant, like "Defiance," and Aint Got No Time To Bleed neither 01:20:53 Meat Shield gets Meat Hooked 01:30:38 Get Lost in Meg Foster's Eyes 01:33:26 Poppycock Round-Up 01:48:19 Final Thoughts: F*ck nazis       {credit to all respective artists for song clips used in this episode, all rights reserved} - "Bokeem Woodbine" by Nas; album: Magic 2; label: BMI/Universal - "The Mistake is Loose" by Jed Kurzel; album: Overlord (Music from the Motion Picture) label: Paramount Music - "Bridging the Gap" by Nas and Olu Dara; album: Street's Disciple; label: Sony Music   Still frame movie images for the slide show provided by: imdb.com       Instagram: @reelpoppycock YouTube: Reel Poppycock Host K.C. @dangerbrewer on Instagram Host Ed Lanier @edlaniermusic on Instagram Host Trevor Boland (He is old, find him on Facebook)

Season 4, Ep. 9: Vice Squad (1953)

We're taking it way back to 1953, and touching on film noir with our new episode covering "Vice Squad."   Directed by Arnold Laven , KC rightly calls this flick out as being highly influential for "cop-a-ganda" style TV shows.   Trevor dives deep into two fascinating golden age stars in the Reel Basic Facts: gangster prototype Edward G. Robinson, m'yeah see; and Paulette Goddard, who Ed labels as an old-timey template for Kim Kardashian.    All that and more on this new episode of Reel Poppycock, enjoy!     00:04:29 Thanks for the fan pick Leonard! 00:07:07 Reel Basic Facts 00:10:40 Edward G.
