episode Why Monotheism is Making a Comeback cover

Description

I was raised both Buddhist and Catholic. Neither really stuck. I spent my twenties being “spiritual but not religious”. And otherwise prioritizing individuality over cultural constraints. However for the first time as an adult, I’m seeing the value of traditional religion. I don’t think I’m alone in that. Global culture is at an inflection point. After centuries of moving towards secularism, many seem to be returning to tradition. Especially for those interested in personal development, religion may be the next unexpected step. episode A Female Perspective on Men w/Reece & Efia | 179 cover

A Female Perspective on Men w/Reece & Efia | 179

Since raising a daughter, I’ve become more sensitive to women’s experience in dating men. So I invited on my friends Reece and Efia to get a bit of female perspective. Reece and Efia are coaches who met in a women’s mystery school in Spain. We met in Mexico last year. We discuss dating, relationships, gender role culture, and the female version of Nice Guy Syndrome. [Video Excerpt] Two Kinds of Women? episode 177 Yuval Mann: Sex and Culture cover

177 Yuval Mann: Sex and Culture

Sexual desire is one of the few places where individual nature will hold out against collective culture. (Comedy being the other big one.) Most of my life I’ve been focused on the importance of individual expression over collective “oppression.” My explorations in sexuality have been a part of that. But lately (since having a family) I’ve been seeing the great value of the other side— there’s a lot to be gained from “belonging” to a greater framework, even at the expense of some individuality. So I was particularly interested in speaking with Yuval. Yuval is a sex educator who came from a Orthodox Jewish background. We speak about the tradeoff of sex and culture, taboos in human relating, and other interesting threads.
