IBD and Mental Health with Dr. Lauren Gent

Welcome to the fourth episode of So you have IBD? This episode focuses on the connections between IBD and Mental Health, as I speak with clinical psychologist, Dr. Lauren Gent. As mentioned, here are definitions for ACT, RFT, and CBT: ACT: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. This is a psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness techniques, and commitment and behavioral change in order to increase psychological flexibility. RFT: Relational Frame Therapy. It argues that humans can create connections between concepts, words, and images. CBT: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It has proven to be successful for a variety of diagnoses including depression, eating disorders, alcohol and drug use, and more. The treatment focuses on changing thinking patterns, by reevaluating things and looking at them in a different light. It could also use ideas like facing your fears, rather than avoiding them.
