Beskrivelse

Billygoat https://youtu.be/kZET6ZGSUfc Billygoat a two-man band who animate, compose and score their own stop-motion films from their St Johns home in Portland–will present a film screening synced with a live music performance. David Klein and Nick Woolley photograph their subjects frame by frame, then print and install the 2-D images one at a time into dynamic handcrafted 3-D landscapes. Since 2007, Klein & Woolley have methodically transformed a bevvy of local Bohemians into an ever-expanding fantasy tableau. Splinter Reeds

Splinter Reeds http://www.splinterreeds.com/ Splinter Reeds is the Bay Area’s first reed quintet, comprising five innovative musicians with a shared passion for new music. The ensemble is committed to presenting top tier performances of today’s best contemporary composition, showcasing the vast possibilities of the reed quintet, commissioning new works, and collaborating with fellow musicians and artists. As a relatively new and emerging chamber music genre, the reed quintet is an evolutionary detour from the traditional woodwind quintet with the advantages of a more closely related instrument family. With approximately 19 reed quintets worldwide, Splinter Reeds is dedicated to cutting edge composition and aims to expand on the existing reed quintet repertoire through the development of new works by emerging and established composers. episode Teddy Rankin-Parker cover

Teddy Rankin-Parker

Teddy Rankin-Parker http://www.teddyrp.com “Some Other Fields” is an ongoing collaboration between Bay Area cellist Teddy Rankin-Parker and New York-based composer Michael Beharie. Based on a longstanding interest in how the physical constraints of an instrument informs its repertoire, Some Other Fields aims to create a processed and amplified cello that demands its own conventions and performance practice. Specific overtones sparked from quiet tremolo bowing are processed with distortions and pitched delays to amplify the resonant frequencies in Rankin-Parker’s unique instrument. Hyper lyrical passages, combined with these noise textures, create a world in which the cello sings in a storm. The Directors Cut

Switchboard Music Festival Co-Directors: Ryan Brown, Jeff Anderle and Annie Phillips http://www.switchboardmusic.com Since 2008, Switchboard has presented 168 sets, comprised of 862 musicians performing a wide range of styles and genres. Sets have included a mix of emerging, established, large, and small ensembles from the Bay Area and selected guests from across the country. Over 39 premieres have been presented—many of which were written for our programs.  Switchboard’s flagship event is the Switchboard Music Festival, an annual, eight-hour, non-stop showcase bringing together a diverse array of primarily local musicians united by a common desire to challenge genre distinctions. Recent highlights include a set by the Kronos Quartet on the 2014 Festival as part of their 40th anniversary season; other headliners have included Tyondai Braxton, Carla Kihlstedt, Zoë Keating, Volti, Pamela Z, and Del Sol String Quartet. Our monthly concert series, Switchboard Presents, premiered in February 2014 and is held at the Center for New Music. These double-bill showcases feature previous, upcoming, and future Festival artists in an intimate and casual setting.
