Beskrivelse

In this Episode Ryan and Jon turn their attention toward questions emerging around avatars and bodies. The conversation challenges all of us to recognize many of the interpretive lenses that we have inherited. Lenses that substantially effect our views of what is considered "Real."  How are we to make sense of the emerging questions?  The conversation tackles questions about sex with avatars, digital baptism, hallucinogenics and VR, and so many other seeming absurdities that we find ourselves needing to take seriously here at the dawn of Web3.

Ep. 1 | The Descent

The Catacombs is a new podcast from the strange minds of Ryan McLaughlin and Jon Dengler that tackles religion, morality, and meaning at the dawn of the Web3 era. We believe that VR, Blockchain, AI, and other innovations will pose challenges to the human condition unlike anything we've seen before... but also offer some unprecedented opportunities to do good and act virtuously. We don't have any answers, but we want to get you all thinking long and hard about the questions. The early Christians frequently celebrated their Masses in the catacombs of the Roman Empire, often on top of the very crypts of their saints and martyrs. In this brave new technological world we live in, we want to invite you to climb back down into the catacombs with us. We want to let our thoughts and conversations dwell for a while in this place of luminous darkness, where Life and Death embrace like old friends, where this Reality bleeds over into the next, and where apophaticism is the order of the day. Let's talk.
