Beskrivelse

Colorism in entertainment- We have guest panelists Jay and Warren of the Blacklite Podcast, Monique of the 52 Dates Podcast, John of a Football World Discussion, and Jami. The conversation steered to the much-needed topic of Zoe Saldana’s portrayal of Nine Simone in the 2016 biopic called Nina, which was notoriously championed against by Simone’s fans and family members.  It was one of the first times where the social media age and issues regarding Black portrayals in Hollywood collided, providing important discussion around the erasure of dark-skin. .

S03_05 featuring music artist BoosSSJ

We interview music artist BootsSSJ who is a writer and recording artist from Prince Georges County who makes thoughtful melodic quasi-trap music with visceral undertones of the blues. In his debut EP “I Be Alright” He expresses the negative emotions that came from growing up in a financially unstable home, taking to the streets to escape the sadness of his home life, impacted by poverty, multiple deaths of loved ones, strict religious upbringing, and untreated mental disorder. Bringing the experiences of a timid boy in a stone cold world, and the despair of realizing he became colder than the world around him. In the same breath, and to be shared in works to come, he holds on to the hope that love, transparency, and honesty can create a reality that like experienced individuals can live in without feeling the need to escape it.
