Feeling upset about current situations is entirely valid, as global events, news, and personal circumstances can trigger strong emotional responses like anxiety, anger, and hopelessness. To manage this, experts recommend limiting your media intake, focusing on what you can control, and dedicating time to self-care. Focus on What You Can Control: You can't fix every global crisis, but you can control your daily routine, your immediate environment, and how you treat yourself. Healthy Coping Strategies If you are feeling overwhelmed, you can use several actionable techniques to de-escalate the feeling: The 90-Second Reset: Pause and focus on slow breathing. The initial chemical surge of a strong emotion typically lasts about 90 seconds. Lingering feelings usually happen when you keep dwelling on the trigger. Step Back: Take a brief timeout or walk away from the triggering situation to collect your thoughts. Physical Release: If you are feeling particularly agitated, try brisk exercise like a quick walk to burn off the stress. Communicate: Once you are calm, express your concerns or boundaries in a direct, nonconfrontational way.
