Up And Coming Kiwi: Madeline Shelling

Madeline Shelling is headed to the individual elite ranks in 2023 after qualifying for the CrossFit Games the last two years on teams.  One of the elite CrossFitters in New Zealand, she and Marnie Sykes are looking to make big waves in what hopes to be an expanded field of women heading to Madison from Oceania this summer. Madeline joins the show to talk accents, her trips to the Games, meeting Brooke Wells, her PhD, her culture, why CrossFit is so popular down under and more!

Broken Bones to Burj Khalifa: Dana Paran

Dana Paran is what we'll call a "reformed weightlifter."  A one-time Olympic hopeful, Paran dabbled in CrossFit before becoming a full-time competitor in 2019, traveling to the Asia CrossFit Championship sanctioned event.  In 2022 she qualified for the Syndicate Crown semifinal before declining her invitation to focus on her own mental health.  Oh, by the way, doctors once told Dana she shouldn't be doing high-level competing like this after shattering her ankle/foot in a fall.  A few weeks ago Dana finished 10th at the Dubai Fitness Championship and is locked and loaded for the 2023 season.

Jessica Griffith is one of the more popularly known CrossFit Games athletes over the last several years.  Making her debut at the 2015 Games, Jessica's best finish was a team silver medal in 2019.  In 2022 she's now retired from competitive CrossFit and just recently became a first-time mother with her husband, and CrossFit / weightlifting competitor, Austin Cahoy.   Matt goes way back -- with Austin specifically -- and we dive into how the couple met, what the pregnancy process has been like, phases of life in CrossFit and so much more!
