Beskrivelse

In this sermon on Luke 7:35, we reflect on Jesus’ words: “Wisdom is justified by her children.” What does it mean to justify wisdom? What kind of fruit are we called to bear in our lives — especially when we’re facing struggles in marriage, family, or personal hardship? Drawing from the teachings of the Church Fathers and the Orthodox understanding of sanctification (theosis), this message calls us to stop blaming others and begin the deep work of self-examination and growth. True wisdom, Jesus says, is proven right by the lives it transforms. Are we bearing the fruits of the Spirit — love, peace, patience, kindness — or just words? Christ is the Wisdom of God, and His presence in us should be visible in how we live. The question isn’t just what we believe, but what we’re becoming. 📖 Gospel Reading: Luke 7:27–35 🎙️ Sermon preached at SBGOC on June 15, 2025 🔔 Subscribe for more sermons and reflections from our Orthodox tradition.

Trusting God on the Journey - His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos

In this homily on the Gospel of St. Matthew, we reflect on Christ sending out His disciples with nothing but trust in the One who called them. Why would Jesus command them to travel without money, security, or even a walking stick? What does this radical dependence mean for Christians today? This message explores the Christian life as a pilgrimage — not built on control, spiritual achievements, or forcing others to believe, but on surrender to the grace of God. We are reminded that faith is a gift, not something we can pressure others into accepting, and that discipleship requires letting go of the things that compete with Christ in our hearts. As we continue the season after Pentecost, this homily challenges us to ask: Are we truly trusting God, or are we still trying to hold on to both Christ and mammon? “Unless we let go of the serpent, we cannot walk in the fellowship of the saints.”

Theosis - Rev. Fr. Abey George

In the days between Ascension and Pentecost, the Church places before us the High Priestly Prayer of Christ from the Gospel of St. John — a prayer that reveals the deepest desire of God for humanity. Jesus does not pray for comfort, success, or worldly blessings. He prays “that they all may be one” — united with Him and transformed by His divine life. This homily explores the Orthodox understanding of theosis (deification): the true purpose of the Christian life. What does it mean to unite our thoughts, desires, and will to God? How do we know if we are truly drawing closer to Him? Through reflections on repentance, humility, negative thoughts, gossip, and the life of Saint Paisios of Mount Athos, this message challenges us to prepare our hearts for the coming of the Holy Spirit by cultivating purity, humility, and love for others. As Pentecost approaches, we are reminded that Christianity is not merely about attending church or asking God for things — it is about becoming one with Him.

episode What Are We Really Seeking? - His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos cover

What Are We Really Seeking? - His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos

On the first Sunday after Pentecost, we reflect on Christ’s words in St. John 6, where He challenges the crowds who followed Him not because they recognized the signs of God, but because they “ate the bread and were filled.” This homily explores the subtle ways our faith can become centered on comfort, success, possessions, and personal expectations rather than true communion with Christ. Through reflections on wealth, human desire, prayer, and the modern “theology of affluence,” we are reminded that even religious life can become focused on accumulation instead of surrender. Jesus redirects our attention toward “the food that endures for eternal life” and calls us to a faith that is lived, visible, and transformative — not merely spoken. At the center of this message is Christ’s declaration: “I am the Bread of Life.” He Himself is our sustenance, our strength, and the One who carries us through every season of life. The question for each of us is simple but searching: Are we seeking Christ Himself, or only what we hope to receive from Him?
