Integrated Awarness-How to build awarness.

In today’s Open Mic episode, I would like to bring up an important connection mixed-race Latinas have and that is: WE are the bridges of change among different communities. We are powerful women who can help build bridges and bring awareness to our communities, especially during difficult times. Gatekeepers of family and culture. There are many issues that are currently affecting our communities and our nation. Issues such as police brutality, racial profiling, immigration to name a few. Did You Know? According to US Census, 59.9 million-# of Hispanics in America as of July 1, 2018, Hispanics the nation’s largest racial minority. Hispanics make up 18.3% of the American population. If that is not the power of numbers IDK what is. (How can we build bridges and awareness) We have the numbers, but to position ourselves to build bridges that are resilient against a system of oppression, we must look within ourselves and see what areas we can do better in. Because there are systems in place that restrict our growth. That’s a fact. The only way to fight systematic oppression and help our communities thrive is by understanding that fight is overnight, there is a pace, its a marathon for change.  We learn 4 tools that help us build a bridge and bring cultural awareness to our local communities. They are Education/Knowledge, Cultural Institutions, Literature/Poetry, & Social & Community Support. How each one of these tools helps build strong communities that work with each other vs against each issue.
