episode Episode 2: The Texas Freedom Network cover

Beskrivelse

On this episode of The Pink Elephant, I interviewed Julia Mandel, the Outreach and Advocacy Coordinator of the Texas Freedom Network. In this episode she discusses sex education from her personal experience and as an advocate on education policy. To find more about the Texas Freedom Network check out TFN.org.  This was my first time producing my own show so forgive me in advance for being shy, amateur editing and production. I would be open to doing another podcast some day with the right co-host so I thought I would just throw that energy into the universe. You can find me at @thecortez on Instagram and at Cortezfranksanchez.com Thanks again for listening. :)

episode Episode 3: Mr. Texas Leather 2019 and HIV Prevention cover

Episode 3: Mr. Texas Leather 2019 and HIV Prevention

In this episode I speak to Jeremy Teel, the first Black Man to be selected by the community to hold the title of Mr. Texas Leather. He is an educator in the field of public health and uses his platform to bring awareness to issues surrounding sexual health. In this discussion he talks about HIV and the spectrum of integrated health as this virus is only one dimension of ones life. We discuss what sex education would look like in an ideal world and so much more.  This was my first time producing my own show so forgive me in advance for being shy, amateur editing and production. I would be open to doing another podcast some day with the right co-host so I thought I would just throw that energy into the universe. episode Episode 1: Devil's in the Bedroom and Sex Ed in Schools cover

Episode 1: Devil's in the Bedroom and Sex Ed in Schools

This project was inspired by conversations held on campus about how sex education was not accessible for those who identified as LGBTQ and the negative impact this had on how we were treated in society. In this episode I interviewed Rachel Kuntz, a fellow board member of ASU's student organization "Devil's in the Bedroom," a paraprofessional student organization with the mission to ensure our education and programming empowers individuals to make appropriate decisions about their sexual health and wellbeing; that all experiences are consensual, safe, and pleasurable. Devil's in the Bedroom values equity, inclusivity and justice. While doing this project I was conducting a Sex Ed Mapping project where I surveyed students on the quality of sex education they received, if any and if it addressed issues such as body positivity, consent, access to contraceptives and healthy relationships. Sadly I found that in addition to people receiving abstinence only education, many sought out information on their own from abusive partners, at the bar and adult films. I once heard that learning sex education from porn is like learning how to drive from a high speed police chase, someone is going to get hurt. This was my first time producing my own show so forgive me in advance for being shy, amateur editing and production. I would be open to doing another podcast some day with the right co-host so I thought I would just throw that energy into the universe.
