5 episoderIn this episode, we speak with Giovanna Castiglioni – daughter of the legendary Italian designer, Achille Castiglioni. We couldn’t be in person for this episode as Giovanna is based Milan where she runs and curates the Fondazione Achille Castiglioni [https://www.fondazioneachillecastiglioni.it/], which she co-founded in 2006. Giovanna initially pursued a degree in Geological Sciences, but she has dedicated her career to preserving and promoting her father's design legacy. Giovanna has a unique approach and engages a global audience through dynamic workshops to promote the ‘Castiglioni Method’ of design. During the pandemic, she kept the Fondazione’s mission alive through remote learning and live sessions on social media, as well as producing a flipbook series [https://corraini.com/en/autori/giovanna-castiglioni.html] called ‘Castiglioni in 2 seconds’. If you would like to sign the petition to help keep the Fondazione in its original location, please click here [https://www.change.org/p/salviamo-la-fondazione-achille-castiglioni-di-milano-che-dopo-61-anni-rischia-lo-sfratto]. Today’s episode is with Daniel Schofield [https://daniel-schofield.com/] – a British designer based between Copenhagen and London. Daniel is one of the UK’s most promising designers, and has already won various awards, such as the Design Guild Mark and the Elle Decoration British Design Award for Furniture. Often found sketching on a scrap of paper, Daniel’s background is in art, graphic design and carpentry. This evolved into a passion for design, culminating in a degree in furniture and product design at Sheffield Hallam University. Daniel's tutor at University was Roger Bateman, who put him in touch with Coexistence [https://www.coexistence.co.uk/]'s Managing Director, Dan Gay, who after graduating, worked as Roger’s design assistant. Dan subsequently offered Schofield a part-time role at Coexistence, which opened his eyes to the furniture industry. Aiming to create timeless and useful products, Daniel focuses on solving problems and finds beauty in simplicity. He places emphasis on what is essential, and aims to create charming objects you’ll want to keep for a long time. Thank you for listening to this episode! On this episode, we're joined by Dame Laura Lee, at her office near Maggie’s West London. Laura has been at Maggie's [https://www.maggies.org/]for 28 years as CEO and she became a Dame 5 years ago. She has been recognised for her work ensuring people living with cancer have the emotional support they need alongside their medical care. Since the first Maggie’s centre opened in 1996 in Edinburgh, under Laura’s guidance, Maggie’s has grown at an incredible rate, despite relying almost entirely on voluntary donations. There are now 24 centres across the UK, with 2 more opening next year, as well as centres in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Barcelona. Today I am with artist and designer, Morag Myerscough [https://www.moragmyerscough.com/index.php], in our showroom. Born and bred in Holloway, London, Morag has always been fascinated by how colour, patterns and words can transform urban environments. Morag’s work has revitalised spaces like schools, hospitals, and cultural hubs, by creating engaging experiences for everyone. She is obsessed with Belonging and her instantly recognisable visual approach encourages a sense of joy and belonging to everyone who encounters it. Passionate about community and identity, Morag collaborates with local groups and reflects their heritage in her vibrant work. This resonates emotionally and visually, and goes beyond geographical and cultural boundaries. Thank you for listening to this episode! On this episode, the first of this series, we're joined by Margaret Howell [https://www.margarethowell.co.uk/], in her busy Central London studio. Margaret is very special guest and long-time friend of Coexistence. Margaret has been designing beautiful clothing for over fifty years, emphasising understated quality over trends. Margaret initially sold her clothes from her home in Blackheath, with help from stores like Joseph and Coexistence. Margaret admired the fact that British-made shirts could sit alongside contemporary design. Today, Margaret Howell has stores across the world, from Europe to Japan, and has been appointed a CBE for services to the retail industry. Thank you for listening to our first episode!
