Continuing with our revised format of asking the artists to explain their track choices and what each selection means to them, Valentin explains exactly what Kittencast 02.16 is all about… Valentin Ginies:I started this set with a recent release from the duo Mintz who I discovered with their new album called ‘Pulled of our planet”. I started the set with this one because I really liked the feeling of anticipation it brings out. The beginning of the set reminds me of Burning Man. Nothing can come close to riding a bike in the middle of the desert and living such a crazy adventure. I really love the big deep synth lines with scattered snare drums and high hats. The pace picks up progressively around 30 minutes into the mix with one particular artist who I’ve been paying close attention to; Jonas Saalbach from Berlin has released some cool sounding hypnotic music – he should definitely be watched in the future. After that I played some more melodic tracks that bring the set to new highs; polyphonic rhythms just the way I like them! At the one hour mark I played a powerful remix by Zombies in Miami. This track really makes a pause in the set and kicks it off to a new techno direction. At this point we transition from the Burning Man vast open desert to a dark techno cave. Petter B has been making quality techno and this remix of Cari Lekebusch is just another example. Often people always ask me what artist I like to play; Keith Carnal is one of them, he has some solid raw techno coming out. I mix songs together as you would an instrument. Instead of mixing from one to another I mix and blend loops, constantly changing EQs, delay, reverb and overall output. Their belter ‘Semper’ (listen here) was featured on Darius Syrossian’s Sankeys radio show for May’s unsigned talent and things have been blowing up for the duo ever since. The track has now been signed to Natural Rhythm and will be out at an undisclosed point in the future. The kittencast the guys have put together for us is ‘more of a chin stroker than a face melter’.
