The Todd and Oz Show

Texas senate bill 379 bans snap recipients from using their benefits to buy things like candy, gum, and sweetened drinks, but Gina Plata-Nino with the food research and action center tells cbs austin the changes have made it harder for people who rely on snap to meet their basic needs, and the Texas education agency has released the spring 2026 STAAR test results for third through eighth graders. Statewide, the numbers show a shift in Texas classrooms, including a surge in advanced math and a jump in middle school reading with state officials attributing those reading gains to a statewide school cell phone ban.
