Beginning with John’s stated purpose in the Gospel, we examine key passages such as John 1, John 10, and John 20 to understand how John portrays Jesus as one with the Father, the only begotten Son, and the promised Messiah. The discussion also traces the biblical meaning of “Son of God,” showing how sonship in Scripture often conveys likeness, representation, authority, and divine mission rather than merely biological descent. We examine references to the “sons of God” in the Old Testament, the divine council imagery found in passages such as Psalm 82, Job, and Genesis 6, and how Jesus uses these concepts in His dialogue with the religious leaders in John 10.
