This is episode 53 of The Truth Tank. On this episode, We will be looking at the greatest movie monster of all time, starring in 38 films spanning 70 years, the one and only Godzilla..  We will take a look at the latest instalment of the franchise Toho Studios Godzilla: Minus One.  Diving into the themes, metaphors the film explores and social issues playing out in the backdrop of post war in Japan; the trust in the government, societal upheaval, PTSD, people helping people, destructive nationalism, communities banding together during in times of crisis and disaster response. These issues covered in the film are as relevant today as they were back then. Godzilla: Minus One has received rave reviews around the world due to its human story and VFX budget of less than 15 million dollars. Hollywood budgets have become overinflated in the past few decades. The last batch of superhero and sequel films have bearly made their budget back which asks the questions… What are the big studios doing with all this money? How can a relatively small Japanese studio produce one of the most visually spectacular films of the year for less than the standard independent film? This is episode 52 of The Truth Tank This episode is the long awaited overdue sequel to Avatar: The History Behind The Film Part 1. We will continue our look at Avatar’s pre-production picking up where we left off, early on in 2006 when the script for the film is written, designing the world, creatures, cultures and characters of Avatar, and alien languages. This is episode 51 of The Truth Tank. On this episode we will be looking at one of the most anticipated films of the year Oppenheimer. We will start off the episode with a look back at the films of movie master Christopher Nolan from Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk and Tenet. No two Nolan films are the same he is a filmmaker that has crossed genres and styles, leaving his style and trademark non linear, paradoxical time bending stamp on his films, and Oppenheimer is no different. Finally we will take a deep dive into Oppenheimer Nolan's latest masterpiece, the 3 hour biopic about the man who developed the Atomic Bomb and the complex backdrop of World War 2, his unorthodox personal life and the race to build the bomb. This is episode 50 of The Truth Tank  On this episode, We will be taking a deep dive into the fifth and final instalment of the Indiana Jones Series. First up an in depth review of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny; What worked and What didn’t? The Good, The Bad and The Annoying. The film was plagued with problems from its several year delay of the theatrical release, to Spielberg stepping down as director, to numerous rewrites of the script, Covid, on set injuries, poor test screenings, reshoots and running over budget. Secondly, We will look at the astronomical budget. The Dial of Destiny is Lucasfilm’s most expensive film they have produced, Needing to make nearly 900 million to make a profit. Indy 5 isn’t the only Big Budget summer blockbuster to under perform this year. It’s one of a growing list of movies that have not only under performed at the box office but have failed to make any kind of profit. Disney’s last 3 movies have lost nearly a billion dollars, you’ve really got to ask; What is the problem? Is this the new normal for big budget films? Has streaming and the cost of living changed what studios should expect to make with their big releases?
