(Fox News) Major League Baseball warns San Francisco Giants players for writing Bible verses on Pride Night hats as starter Landen Roupp said the verse represents "God's covenant" and expressed gratitude for freedom of belief. Several Giants pitchers, in a statement of their faith, wrote Bible verse designations on their hats. Naturally, that public expression of Christian faith did not go over well with left-wing sportswriters who criticized Roupp and his teammates. Well, those critics will be overjoyed to hear that Major League Baseball has now officially stepped in. "The writing on the cap violates our rules, and consistent with normal practice, we have warned the players about future violations," — Pat Courtney, MLB Chief Communications Officer On the other hand, would MLB have warned a player for writing a message of support for left-wing politics, or for the LGBTQ+ community, for example? This is, after all, the same leadership team that pulled the All-Star Game out of Georgia because of misinformation from Joe Biden, Stacey Abrams and left-wing sportswriters about the state's new voting rights bill. Would they be issuing this warning if not for more criticism from the political left? As for the team itself, nobody seemed to care. Manager Tony Vitello spoke about it after the Friday night game against the Cubs, telling reporters that nothing was discussed with the protesting players. --- Iranians Stand Proud for the Iran That Was! (New York Post) The FIFA World Cup is supposed to be an escape. For 90 minutes, politics take a back seat to passion. Governments disappear. Borders blur. The ball is kicked and all of the world watches. That’s always been the beauty of sports. It unites instead of divides. But on Monday night inside SoFi Stadium—named Los Angeles Stadium for the World Cup—that illusion never stood a chance. Several hours before kickoff, the atmosphere around the stadium felt strangely calm. The early-arriving crowds were mostly subdued, almost contemplative. It felt like the kind of quiet that comes before a storm. Then the flags began to appear as an army of Iranians marched toward the stadium. Not the official flag of the Islamic Republic that FIFA permits inside stadiums. The other one. The lion-and-sun flag. The flag carried by many Iranians who fled the 1979 revolution. Yet when Iran captain Mehdi Taremi spoke Sunday, he attempted to draw a line between politics and football. "We play for every Iranian. We are here to bring joy." That may be true, but it’s also true that many Iranians no longer agree on what their national team represents. For some immigrants who fled the country during the revolution, the players are ambassadors of a nation. For others, they are unwilling symbols of a regime they oppose. That divide made its way inside the stadium as well. As the players were introduced, and Iran’s national anthem played, hundreds of supporters unveiled the prohibited flags and turned their backs toward the field. --- Alf’s Mom Died in Hate (Not the Bee) Anne Schedeen, known as mom "Kate Tanner" from *ALF*, just died. That's sad enough, but Variety (and her family, apparently) wanted to make sure her death was all about Bad Orange Man. Even Rob Reiner's severe TDS didn't make the headlines like this. In a statement, Schedeen's family wrote: "She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of creative energy, whip smart humor, delight in her family, adoration for little dogs, burning hatred for Trump, passion for second-hand thrifting, and love for a good story. We are bereft without her. We loved her so so much, as did all who met her." That's right. Those are the literal words from her family. Man, Trump is just always on their minds, isn't he? Rent free. One more comment for the road for all my fellow ALF fans: She also had a burning hatred for ALF.
