In the last episode we talked about should vs want, and why the idea of wanting more for our lives sometimes feels taboo, especially in faith based circles. In today’s episode Scott and I expand on this idea by discussing what actually motivates people to change. Is it primarily avoiding what we don’t want or pursuing what we do want. Is it ok to declare what you really want in life? Is it ungrateful or unGodly to want more from your life? If you are a person of faith, this simple question may bring with it shame and anxiety- but should it? In this episode, Noel and Scott begin unpacking the taboo nature of should vs want, especially in church circles. Enjoy!

Episode 3- Start With Your True Emotions (Be Honest This Time)

In episodes 1 and 2 Scott and I discussed and debated the concept of reasonable emotional expectations when it comes to having a relationship with God. We concluded that it’s impossible for human beings not to bring their own personalities, trauma, and general life experiences into the relationship with God. Our person informs how we see God, and how we react to what He may be doing. We ultimately concluded that it’s important to know that you and I may assign characteristics to God that don’t apply to Him and that we sometimes do that based solely on our own life experiences and not necessarily who He really is. BUT, at the same time, it’s important to embrace and use our emotions, especially when it comes to God. In this third episode, Scott somehow becomes the therapist and challenges me to not only know about the ways that emotions affect my relationship with God, but to feel and experience them. It’s rare for me to be at a loss for words, but like any great lawyer, Scott puts me in a corner that I cannot get out of. You will hear in real time, me coming to grips with deep emotional wounds when it comes to success and money. The takeaway for all of us…wherever you are in life, START with the emotions first and tell the whole truth- then invite God in to work His wizardry.

In this second part of the maiden episode, Scott and Noel continue the deep dive on whether or not God produces results in our life that we ask for; and how our trauma and emotions color how we see God in His dealings with us. Is Proverbs true- we put in X input and get Y result? Does God deal with every follwer the same?

Episode 1, Part 1- What Can We Expect (Emotionally) in a Relationship with God?

In this two part maiden episode, things get spicy right out of the gate! Scott and Noel debate what can reasonaly be expected from a relationship with God. This episode focuses on the emotional aspects of being in relationship with God and "trusting" Him (or not) for "results" in life. Can God be trusted to help us in times of need, even when we screw up? If so, what activates Him to intervene in our situation? Does God answer us in some way, no matter what?
