Topics discussed during this episode: * We are both Black so we are going to take the approach of speaking from the perspective of Black men and Black women to apply to this episode. * What is the strong Black woman? * Who is her strong Black man? * We both started reading a book that is very familiar: Beyond Mars & Venus, a sequel to Women are from Mars, Men are from Venus. The author says: * Gone are the days where women had to be submissive and dependent on men and the man had to carry the burden of providing for his family on his own. * What we need to experience in our relationships has changed. * We need a new set of skills to deal with new relationships. * Men now participate in raising kids, doing house work, and some of the more traditional female roles. * Women are working more, sometimes serving as the breadwinner, and also undoubtedly taking on some traditional masculine tendencies. * Our happiness should not be based on changing our partner, but rather allowing him or her to be themselves but where is the boundary? * Author recommends changing how you feel about certain things so you do not cause so much conflict with your partner. We had to listen and reflect on this a few times. He provides a few steps on how to do this. * Do not depend on your partner to change. * Give your partner what they need first so discover what that looks like. * Ask for more in small increments and reward your partner for what they do. * Closing Remarks: Strong Black woman, Strong Black man Support the show [https://www.facebook.com/TwoTenPodcastAC/]

Listen as Carol and Aimy dissect a recent interview with Tom Bilyeu of Impact Theory and Ray Dalio, Founder of the world's largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates. Background: Ray Dalio is the founder of the world’s biggest hedge fund, donated $100 million to the Connecticut state schools to help students graduate well from high school and impact the education system. He is a very wise investor and businessman. In this podcast, Carol and Aimy explore some of the key points Ray and Tom discuss as they dissect the upcoming economic downturn we are expecting and how average, everyday people can thrive during this time and make some choices that allow them to upskill, develop, and grow. Topics discussed: * Education: Skills versus traditional college and how being a person of color can impact these choices. * Make your passion your work, know how to work with people who can do better things, what are the right work habits, how can we get things done without us doing them. * Separate yourself from others by finding out what things in your life are better done by others. If you want your life to be successful, you will not let yourself do certain things because you’re just no good at them. * In order to grow, you must go through pain, problems, challenges, etc. The two are synonymous. * You can have a lot more out of life if you know how to get more out of a minute. Effective time management. * We all have to face our choices daily. * Struggling well-people don’t think they go together but they do. Go towards the struggle. Have thoughtful disagreements. If you don’t struggle well, you won’t do well. * Savoring your life: The freedom to do whatever you want to do without obligation. Go towards freedom. * What you don’t know is greater than what you do know. We must learn a great deal and education and skill acquisition is key in any economic downturn. * We can’t hide from our mistakes, weakness, and disconcerting things. We must face them head on.
