episode ADHD Time Blindness: The Now vs. Not Now Problem Explained cover

Description

Have you ever had something on your to-do list for weeks - something you knew needed to happen - and you just couldn't make yourself start it? And then one day the deadline got close enough, the stakes got real enough, and suddenly you were doing it fast, wondering why you couldn't have just done this sooner? That experience has a name. It's called the now versus not now problem, and it's one of the most clarifying frameworks for understanding how the ADHD brain experiences time. In this solo episode, Jorie breaks down Dr. Russell Barkley's research on ADHD and time - specifically the idea that the ADHD brain doesn't experience time as a continuous line the way neurotypical brains do. Instead, time gets sorted into two categories: now and not now. And not now? It basically doesn't exist. It doesn't feel real, urgent, or pressing β€” even when you logically know it's coming. Jorie also shares her own experience β€” from being the last-minute term paper person to waiting until guests are walking in to clean the house β€” and how understanding this pattern changed the way she works with it. πŸ’¬ Where does now vs. not now show up most in your life? ADHD &... Working Memory: Build Your Second Brain (Externalize Your Thoughts)

Is your ADHD brain dropping thoughts the second they form? You're not broken - your working memory just needs backup. In this episode, we're diving into externalizing your thoughts: the simple (but life-changing) practice of getting everything OUT of your head and into a system you can actually trust. What you'll learn: ➜ What "externalizing thoughts" actually means - and why it's a non-negotiable for the ADHD brain ➜ Why starting with ONE tool matters more than finding the perfect app ➜ The novelty problem: how to keep visual reminders from becoming invisible wallpaper ➜ The "disrupt your flow" anchoring trick (put things where they literally can't be ignored) ➜ Why handwriting beats typing for ADHD memory - and how to use your phone assistant as a safety net ➜ How to quiet the perfectionism that sabotages every system you try to build ───────── RESOURCES MENTIONED: Sticky notes + wall calendars (low-tech wins) Voice memos & phone assistant reminders Whiteboards - with the color-swap trick Your ADHD Action Blueprint: https://tinyurl.com/4vu9zamj [https://tinyurl.com/4vu9zamj] ───────── πŸ”— Ready to work on this with someone who gets it? ADHD and Fear: How to Trust Yourself as a Leader | Harriet Bratt

Harriet Bratt is an international speaker, trainer, and fire guide who helps entrepreneurs step into visible leadership without waiting for the fear to disappear. In this conversation, Harriet and Jorie talk about the moment ADHD shows up as both a strength and a struggle in business, why impulsive investing so often follows a heightened emotional state, and how learning to trust yourself changes what leadership looks like. In this episode: ➜ Why waiting for confidence keeps you stuck, and what to do instead ➜ How impulsivity tied to heightened emotions can drive impulsive spending and investing ➜ How scheduling and routines can give an ADHD brain more freedom, not less ─────────── CONNECT WITH HARRIET BRATT: Find Harriet on social media: @harrietbrattwarrior [https://www.instagram.com/harrietbrattwarrior?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==] ─────────── πŸ”— Ready to work on this with someone who gets it? episode ADHD &... The Hidden Cost of Masking artwork

ADHD &... The Hidden Cost of Masking

Have you ever caught yourself acting one way at work, another way with friends, and something closer to yourself only when you're completely alone? That split is exhausting. And if you have ADHD, there's a good chance it has a name: masking. In this episode, we unpack what ADHD masking actually is, why so many women with ADHD do it without even realizing it, and what it quietly costs you over time. This isn't about dropping every filter overnight or suddenly oversharing with your coworkers. It's about starting to notice when you're masking, asking yourself whether it's serving you, and slowly building spaces in your life where your real self feels welcome. There's also a distinction in this episode that tends to land hard: the difference between fitting in and belonging. They sound similar. They are not. And understanding the difference might be exactly what you need to hear today. In this episode: ➜ What ADHD masking is and why it develops ➜ Why women with ADHD are especially affected ➜ The difference between fitting in and belonging * This episode originally aired October 28, 2025. ───────────────────────────────────────── CONNECT WITH JORIE: πŸ”— Ready to work on this with someone who gets it? ADHD, Dyslexia & the Brain You Were Born With | Bryan Mark Rigg, PhD

What if the brain you've spent your life fighting was never broken to begin with? In this episode, Jorie sits down with historian, researcher, and Yale graduate Bryan Mark Rigg, PhD - someone who has spent 25 years studying ADHD and dyslexia, not just in the lab, but in his own life, in his children's lives, and across thousands of years of human history. What he shares reframes the conversation entirely. This is not a "you're special" pep talk. It's grounded in evolutionary science, anthropological research, and the kind of historical evidence Bryan has built his career on. And it just might be the episode that changes how you see yourself. ─────────── CONNECT WITH BRYAN MARK RIGG, PhD: Website: https://www.bryanmarkrigg.com [https://www.bryanmarkrigg.com] RESOURCES Conquering Learning Disabilities at Any Age β€” Bryan Mark Rigg: https://amzn.to/4xNYGoc [https://amzn.to/4xNYGocDriven] Driven to Distraction β€” Ned Hallowell: https://amzn.to/4eooAaj [https://amzn.to/4eooAajMan's] Man's Search for Meaning β€” Viktor Frankl: https://amzn.to/43PtdnK [https://amzn.to/43PtdnK] Affiliate links above. ADHD & Motivation: The Brain Chemistry Behind Why You Can't Just Try Harder

If you've spent years wondering why starting tasks feels impossible β€” even when you want to do them β€” this episode is for you. Jorie breaks down the neuroscience of ADHD in plain language: specifically what dopamine and norepinephrine are, how they work differently in the ADHD brain, and why that explains so much of what you've been blaming yourself for. This isn't about effort or motivation. It's about biology β€” and once you understand it, a lot of things start to make a lot more sense. In this episode: * Why ADHD isn't a character flaw β€” and what's really happening in your brain with dopamine and norepinephrine * How a poorly filtered frontal lobe explains distraction, emotional overreaction, and task avoidance * Practical, ADHD-friendly tools to work with your brain chemistry β€” including body doubling, interest-based activation, small rewards, and environment control ──────── πŸ”— Ready to work on this with someone who gets it?
