Contractors For Broadford And Cooraclare Sewerage Schemes To Be Appointed Next Year

Contractors won’t be appointed to begin major sewerage works in Broadford and Cooraclare until next year. Both villages were included in the Government’s €50m pilot wastewater programme in 2024, which aims to connect unsewered settlements to the network. Uisce Éireann has confirmed consultants will finalise designs for the projects by September. Responding to Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Cooney at the Oireachtas Housing Committee, Head of Asset Management Seán Laffey says progress is being made.

Sinn Féin's Tommy Guilfoyle Elected Mayor Of Ennis

Ennis has its first Sinn Féin mayor in over a century following the election of Clarecastle Councillor Tommy Guilfoyle at the annual general meeting of Ennis Municipal District this week.    The Cork native ascended to the position after being nominated by fellow magpie, Fine Gael Councillor Paul Murphy.    The outgoing Cathaoirleach of Ennis MD, Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard, will serve as leas-cathaoirleach for the coming 12 months - she was nominated for the position by Fianna Fáil Councillor Antoinette Baker-Bashua.    A postal worker with a background as a trade unionist, Councillor Guilfoyle has been on Clare County Council since the June 2024 Local Elections.    Clare FM's Seán Lyons was at the meeting and spoke to the new mayor about what the role means to him. Clare Man On His Battle Back From Death’s Door, Thanks To Life Saving Cancer Treatment

Gordon Flannery has had a year that nobody would want to go through.  The Ennis native, who is a publican in Listowel, Co. Kerry, received a colon cancer diagnosis in September of last year, and was told that he had just three months to live.  Gordon was extremely close to death when he underwent life-saving open bowel surgery in The Mater Hospital in Dublin to remove most of the tumour blocking his colon.  Gordon joined Alan Morrissey to share his story, and to encourage men to get checked. Travel Advice Amid Extreme Temperatures In Europe

Irish holidaymakers heading to Europe are being urged to take extra care as a severe heatwave grips large parts of the continent.   Temperatures have soared above 40 degrees in some popular destinations, including Spain, France, Italy and Portugal, prompting health warnings, travel disruptions and emergency measures.   The Irish Travel Agents Association is advising travellers to stay hydrated, avoid the hottest parts of the day and keep up to date with local weather alerts.  To discuss the situation and offer some practical advice for anyone travelling abroad this summer, Alan Morrissey was joined by Ennis-based Travel Counsellor, Gearóid Mannion.
