episode Olivia Rodrigo's The Cure & Obsessed: Vital Biblical Truths About Self-Love & Relationships cover

Description

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2093758/fan_mail/new] In this solo Radiating Faith sermon, I use Olivia Rodrigo’s songs The Cure and Obsessed (along with reference to her album You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love) as a modern doorway into a deeper Biblical conversation about love, insecurity, sexual shame, mental health, and the search for healing. These songs capture something many people struggle with quietly: the desire for romance to fix what is broken inside us, and the painful obsession that can come from comparison, jealousy, and sexual history in relationships.  I talk honestly about my own experiences trying to “be the cure” in past relationships with women who struggled deeply with anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and insecurity. Through those experiences, I learned that romantic love can comfort someone, but it cannot become The Cure or the antidote, nor the salvation and healing they need. A boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, or wife can bless your life, but they cannot replace Jesus Christ, the Word of God, or the deep healing that comes from knowing you are loved by your Creator.  This sermon also addresses Biblical dating, sexual purity, covenantal love, pornography, social media comparison, and the emotional wounds created when sex is treated casually instead of sacredly. I discuss how Scripture gives us a prevention guide for many of the mental and relational wounds people are carrying today, while also making it clear that this message is not about shame. It is about redemption, accountability, restoration, and becoming a new creation in Christ.  If you have struggled with romantic trauma, sexual regret, jealousy, insecurity, comparison wounds, or the belief that another person can finally make you whole, this episode is for you. Relationships are beautiful when they honor God, but they become dangerous when they become idols. The real cure is not being chosen by another person but rather, it's being rooted in Jesus Christ, renewed by Scripture, and learning to love yourself because God already does.  https://www.coupleonukes.com/books/ https://share.google/iEAaBW7F8Ubw8H9a2 Website: https://coupleonukes.com [https://coupleonukes.com/] Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ [https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/] Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? episode Pilot Emergency Ejects From A Jet And What Followed Changed Everything artwork

Pilot Emergency Ejects From A Jet And What Followed Changed Everything

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2093758/fan_mail/new] In this episode, I sit down with Ken Mellott, an Air Force veteran, former pilot, intelligence officer, author, editor, photographer, and man of faith whose life story stretches from the Air Force Academy to a terrifying aircraft accident, military trauma, PTSD recovery, and intelligent design. Mr. Mellott shares how watching the cadets march at the Air Force Academy as a young boy planted a dream in his heart, inspired by his father’s service, military legacy, and the desire to be part of something bigger than himself. We discuss the defining moment that changed his life: a major aircraft emergency in a T-38 jet where both engines failed, forcing him to eject and survive an experience that could have ended his life. Mr. Mellott opens up about the investigation that followed, the shame and anger he carried, the fear of flying, and the identity crisis that came from being seen as “the pilot who crashed a jet.” I also share my own perspective from military life and blue-collar operations, especially how harsh institutional blame can become when leaders would rather blame the operator than admit equipment, systems, or culture failed. This conversation goes deep into military mental health, PTSD, fear of failure, father-son legacy, faith, and the long process of healing. Mr. Mellott explains how his wife’s quiet faith, the example of others who carried hope through suffering, and his own decision to stop living inside the past helped him move forward. We also talk about how identity cannot be built only on rank, career, accomplishments, or other people’s opinions, because true identity has to be rooted in God. Later in the episode, we explore Mr. Mellott’s writing, including his memoir On Broken Wings and his upcoming intelligent design book series. We discuss irreducible complexity, the human body, the Cambrian explosion, the fine-tuning of the universe, and how science can point people toward the reality of a Creator. I also emphasize that evidence and knowledge can point us toward God, but they should lead us into faith, relationship, and trust rather than becoming the entire foundation by themselves. Mr. Mellott leaves us with a powerful message: broken does not mean finished. Whether you are a veteran, pilot, author, believer, survivor of trauma, or someone trying to rebuild after failure, this episode is a reminder that fear, shame, and pain do not get the final word. Faith, perseverance, and God-given identity can carry us into a new chapter. https://www.kenmellott.com/ Website: https://coupleonukes.com [https://coupleonukes.com/] Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ [https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/] Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? episode A Two-Hour Run In Japan Led Me To Spiritual Discoveries About Discipline, Stillness, & Hope artwork

A Two-Hour Run In Japan Led Me To Spiritual Discoveries About Discipline, Stillness, & Hope

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2093758/fan_mail/new] In this solo Radiating Faith episode, I officially begin the Solo Scripture Samurai Arc, a new Japan-inspired series focused on Scripture, Christian history in Japan, spiritual reflection, and real-life lessons from my time living in the Land of the Rising Sun. While I have already recorded sermons during my stay in Japan, this episode marks the beginning of a more intentional journey into Japanese Christian history, the modern revitalization of Christianity in Japan, and the beauty of seeing the same God worshiped across different languages, cultures, and nations. This episode came from a spontaneous two-hour run after a hectic stretch of typhoons, heavy rain, recovery, and physical exhaustion. Instead of repeating the same running route, I pushed past my normal turning point and discovered new trails, beaches, boardwalks, mountain stairs, parks, and a lighthouse I had been looking at from a distance for years. That moment became a lesson about discipline, boredom, perspective, and how distance can distort what we think we understand. Whether in fitness, relationships, faith, or personal growth, the angle we view something from can completely change what we believe about it. I also talk about the importance of stillness in a noisy world. After my recent conversation with Coach Steve Wright about being still, unplugging, and listening for God, I decided to take my own advice. I ran without music, without podcasts, and without distractions so I could take in the ocean, birds, mountains, plants, and the evidence of God’s creation around me. Through that silence, several Psalms came to mind, including Psalm 46:10, Psalm 42:11, Psalm 34:18, and Psalm 23:4. I reflect on how Scripture reassures the downcast, comforts the brokenhearted, strengthens the crushed in spirit, and reminds us that God is present even in the darkest valley. Throughout this episode, I connect physical discipline with spiritual discipline and explain why Christians should train their bodies, minds, and spirits to be ready to serve. I also reflect on the power of hearing Scripture in both English and Japanese, showing that while cultures, languages, and locations may differ, God remains the same. The Solo Scripture Samurai Arc is about more than Japan; it is about faith, discipline, stillness, Scripture, and discovering how God is already moving in places we may have never thought to look. https://www.coupleonukes.com/radiatingfaith/ Website: https://coupleonukes.com [https://coupleonukes.com/] Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ [https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/] Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Rock Bottom Is Not The End: Randy Duran’s Story Of Recovery

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2093758/fan_mail/new] In this episode, I sit down with Randy Duran, a mental health coach who shares a deeply vulnerable story about depression, anxiety, addiction, loneliness, and the dangerous coping cycles that can form when pain goes unspoken. Mr. Duran opens up about struggling with identity and sadness as early as high school, turning to drugs, alcohol, women, gambling, and a fast lifestyle in an attempt to cope with loneliness and emotional isolation. Throughout the conversation, Mr. Duran explains how those early patterns shaped his relationships, his self-concept, and his ability to connect with family, friends, and romantic partners. We discuss how many people can appear functional at school, at work, or in their family life while secretly carrying depression, anxiety, addiction, and suicidal thoughts. His story shows how hidden pain can compound over time when people feel like they cannot burden others with what they are going through. Mr. Duran also shares the night that became one of his major turning points, after a crisis involving alcohol, suicidal intent, police, and the desire to hear his children’s voices one more time. From there, we talk about therapy, healing, accountability, and the importance of having professionals and supportive people who know how to walk with someone through a mental health crisis. I also share my own perspective from suicide prevention work, military mental health conversations, and the reality that lived experience can carry a type of specialized knowledge that matters deeply. She Sold Everything And Moved To Paris Without Speaking French: Change Changes Everything

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2093758/fan_mail/new] In this episode, I sit down with Wani Iris Manly, an IP lawyer, speaker, author, and change expert whose life took a radical turn after she sold everything, left Miami, and moved to Paris without speaking French or knowing anyone there. Ms. Manly shares how a New Year’s Eve moment of prayer, reflection, and radical self-responsibility led her to confront her limiting beliefs and open herself up to a completely different life. Throughout the conversation, Ms. Manly explains how change is not merely external, but deeply internal. We talk about the fear of change, the fear of the unknown, and how many people resist the very transition that may be calling them into a fuller life. Her journey from a high-powered legal career into speaking, writing, and helping others navigate disruption shows how identity, purpose, and calling can evolve when someone is willing to let go of what feels safe. I also share parts of my own journey, including the transition from being a nuclear operator in the military to becoming a full-time podcaster, speaker, comedian, and creator. We discuss how difficult it can be to leave behind an identity that other people chose for you, especially when so much time, money, training, and family expectation were invested into it. Sometimes the identity we grieve was never truly ours; it was simply the role the world told us was practical, safe, or respectable. https://wanimanly.com/ Website: https://coupleonukes.com [https://coupleonukes.com/] Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ [https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/] Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Podcasting Full Time: Catching Up With Noah May & Lethal Venom

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2093758/fan_mail/new] In this reunion episode, I welcome Noah May back to the show to catch up on everything that has changed since his first appearance. Mr. May shares how his podcasting journey has grown over the past year, from hosting Lethal Venom to relaunching Southern Reads and working on Music Talks. He also talks about graduating from Auburn with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and how podcasting unexpectedly became a major part of his professional and creative life. Throughout the conversation, Mr. May and I discuss the real behind-the-scenes work of podcasting: recording hundreds of interviews, managing a massive backlog, dealing with no-shows, navigating guest expectations, and learning when to stop over-editing. We also talk honestly about the strange, funny, and frustrating parts of working with guests, assistants, PR teams, and people who do not always understand the time, energy, and professionalism required to run a podcast well. This episode also explores how podcasting can open doors that creators never expected. Mr. May shares how Southern Reads has brought authors, books, interviews, and new opportunities into his life, while I reflect on how podcasting helped me grow into speaking, comedy, international networking, and global connection. We discuss PodMatch, podcast reviews, guest outreach, episode promotion, and the difference between someone who genuinely wants to share a story and someone who only wants to pitch a product. More than anything, this conversation is a reminder that podcasting does not have to start perfectly to become meaningful. Mr. May’s story shows how a creative side project can turn into a calling, a career path, and a platform for hundreds of voices. https://noahspodcasts.com/ Website: https://coupleonukes.com [https://coupleonukes.com/] Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ [https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/] Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes?
