SUNDAY - JULY 19, 2026 "Providential Protection Plan" Acts 23:12-35

A mob is angry, a courtroom is tense, and more than forty men swear an oath to kill Paul before he ever gets a fair hearing. Acts 23 shows how close the danger gets and how quietly God dismantles it, not by removing hardship, but by moving Paul one step closer to Rome just as promised. We walk through the plot, the warning that reaches Paul through his nephew, and the surprising chain of decisions that turns an ambush into a midnight transfer under heavy guard. Along the way, we connect the story to two Old Testament snapshots that expose the difference between spiritual control and spiritual trust. Jephthah’s unnecessary vow in Judges 11 shows how zeal can drift into bargaining with God. David’s restraint in 1 Samuel 24 shows a better way, refusing to force God’s hand even when the shortcut is right there. The thread tying it together is God’s sovereignty and providence: his plan moves forward through faithful choices, imperfect people, and timing we would never script. We also take a hard look at the “unexpected instruments” God uses, including Claudius Lysias, Roman soldiers, and the legal order that routes Paul to Governor Felix. Even a pagan government becomes a tool for protection, proving that God can work through systems that do not honor him to accomplish purposes that do. SUNDAY - JULY 12, 2026 "Take Courage" Acts 22:22-23:11

A mob is screaming for Paul’s death, a Roman officer is ready to beat answers out of him, and the religious leaders are looking for any excuse to crush him, yet Paul doesn’t lose his witness. We walk through Acts 22:22 to Acts 23:11 and follow the moment where the Lord stands near Paul and says, “Take courage,” then points him forward to Rome. That single line reframes everything: courage is not a personality trait, it’s a response to God’s presence and God’s purpose. We start with the “one more” theme, inspired by Desmond Doss’s wartime prayer, and apply it to everyday Christian perseverance. Then we track three anchors that hold Paul steady: trusting God’s sovereignty when people resist the gospel, relying on God’s Word when emotions flare and repentance is needed, and resting in the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the reason hope doesn’t collapse into despair. Along the way we talk about Paul’s Roman citizenship, the divided council of Pharisees and Sadducees, and why the resurrection sits at the center of Christian faith, not the edges. SUNDAY - JULY 5, 2026 "Paul's Witness" Acts 22:1-22

Paul Revere didn’t become legendary because he won a fight. He became legendary because he carried a message with urgency. That single detail hits differently when we ask what it means to be a Christian witness today, especially as we reflect on the Fourth of July and the approaching 250th anniversary of the United States. We’re not the hero of the story, and we’re not responsible for forcing results, but we are responsible for faithful proclamation while there is still time.  We open Acts 22 and listen to Paul tell his own story, speaking to a hostile crowd and explaining who he was before Christ. He has credentials, training, and zeal, yet the real diagnosis comes into focus when we pair his testimony with Ephesians 2: apart from Jesus, we are dead in trespasses and sins. Then the center of the gospel shines: “But God” makes the dead alive. Salvation is by grace through faith, not by works, not by religious effort, and not by a polished background.  We also talk honestly about conversion stories. Paul’s Damascus Road moment is dramatic, but not everyone’s story is, and that’s fine. The non-negotiables remain: God calls, we repent and believe, we call on the name of the Lord, and we step into the life He appoints.
