episode Former imprisoned journalist on the importance of a free media cover

Description

As World Press Freedom Day is marked, it gives us a convenient moment to ask what is the state of that freedom in Australia? In 2014, Australian journalist Peter Greste was given a seven-year jail sentence for allegations of 'airing false news' as a reporter for al-Jazeera in Egypt. His story captured the attention of the nation and became a living reminder of the importance of press freedom. But things haven't substantially improved in the years since.  Featured: Prof. Peter Greste (Professor of Journalism at Macquarie University, former foreign correspondent for BBC, al-Jazeera, Reuters), Claire Stuchbery (LINA CEO) Presenter - Noah Secomb Producer -  Martin Davies   In the public interest: a journalism, accountability and democracy townhall https://events.humanitix.com/in-the-public-interest [https://events.humanitix.com/in-the-public-interest]  See omnystudio.com/listener [https://omnystudio.com/listener] for privacy information.
