“Peace With Each Other” sermon. Sunday, 5/31/2026.

Handling Disagreements Going the Extra mile Having the attitude of Christ When Jesus Returns Free Passes Scripture Title: Peace With Each Other Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭1‬-‭11‬ ‭ “If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people? Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church? I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers! The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters. Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” Sermon Summary: In our Scripture passage today, Paul chastises these Christians for not settling their differences within the church. The problem with the Corinthians was not that they had disagreements with one another but how they handled these issues when they came up in the life of the church. The Corinthians response was to sue each other in court. And Paul was saying, can you not handle these differences within the church. Paul points out that when Christ returns, Christians will have enormous responsibilities in the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, we need to start handling things responsibly in this life, especially disputes between believers. Whenever you bring Christians from different backgrounds, generations and life experiences into a church, we are bound to have disagreements and differences of opinion. Paul encourages us to avoid disputes altogether. Instead, he tells us to have the attitude of Christ. Christians need to forgive, to not be easily offended, and to not carry grudges. Paul asks the question, Instead of going to battle against a fellow Christian who has hurt you, why not rather be wronged? Why go after a brother or sister in Christ for the purpose of getting even or making them pay for their mistake? As Christians, we don’t keep a record of wrongs and we forgive those who have hurt us. As a church, we’ve got to love each other deeply from the heart and quickly forgive. Paul makes the point that many who are Christians’s today were desperately in need of forgiveness and transformation before they came to Christ. And I think the message is that if Christ is willing to forgive you and be patient with you, you should treat others with the same patience and love.

“Pentecost: A New Beginning” Sermon. Sunday, 5/24/2026.

The Fruit of the Spirit Living in the last days The anniversary of Christ in 7 years. Scripture Title: Pentecost: A New Beginning Scripture Reading: Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬-‭21‬ “Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: “ ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Scripture Summary: Today we celebrate Pentecost, the day when the Holy Spirit was first given to all the believers in that first church in Jerusalem. The sound of a violent wind filled the room and tongues of fire appeared over the heads of the disciples. They began to prophesy and speak in languages that they had not learned. Peter told the crowd outside that this was the fulfillment of the words of the prophet Joel that in the last days God would pour out his Holy Spirit on all people who called on His name and became His follower. We are in the last chapter of human history which is the age of the church and will culminate in the return of Jesus. Before the coming of Christ and the birth of the church, the Holy Spirit was only given to a very few exceptional people such as Moses, Abraham, David and the prophets. With the coming of Jesus, the Holy Spirit is given to all of His followers. In our Scripture passage, the spectacular signs of the Holy Spirit were full on display. Today, the presence of the Holy Spirit is mostly evidenced by a change in attitude, values, and behavior. Paul gives the characteristics of a Christian when the Holy Spirit has begun the work of transformation. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. When these qualities appear in the life of a believer, you know that the Holy Spirit is present and at work in that person’s heart. They become different than the world around them. We receive the Holy Spirit the moment we put our faith in Jesus Christ. Christ’s coming is sooner than ever before. Isaiah 11:12 called for the return of Jewish people from all over the earth to Israel just before Christ returns. That prophecy has mostly been fulfilled in our lifetime. In Matthew 24, Jesus said that the Gospel would be preached throughout the world before His return which has become a reality in our lifetime. And Jesus said that in the last days there will be a great turning away from the Lord just before His second coming. This is happening in the West. In these last days, believers should stand firm by studying and becoming rooted in God’s Word, rejecting and battling against evil, serving the church, and proclaiming the Gospel until Christ returns. Christians have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to see us through. “Sin in the Camp” sermon. Sunday, 5/17/2026.

Church Discipline Tolerance in Today's World Fellowship in the Church Pastor Greg Wiest Scripture Series: I CORINTHIAN SERIES Scripture Title: Sin in the Camp Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭1‬-‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even pagans do not tolerate: A man is sleeping with his father’s wife. And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have gone into mourning and have put out of your fellowship the man who has been doing this? For my part, even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. As one who is present with you in this way, I have already passed judgment in the name of our Lord Jesus on the one who has been doing this. So when you are assembled and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord. Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.”” Sermon Summary: Today’s sermon is about church discipline. In the church, the goal of discipline is correcting ungodly behavior so that the church member can become spiritually healthy and have a better relationship with Christ and their fellow believers. Church discipline is only exercised with sin that is publicly known and deeply immoral, and where the person committing it is ongoing and unrepentant. The church exercises discipline so that the church can be healthy and accomplish its mission of bringing people to faith in Christ and helping them to be better disciples of Jesus. Disobedience on the part of Christians in the church distracts from and sometimes impedes the mission. Ultimately, the goal of church discipline isn’t to punish, but to bring people back to Christ and to restore fellowship with the church. “A Sure Foundation” sermon. Sunday, 5/10/2026.

The True Foundation in life The Temple of God Manhattan Banana Good News Club Scripture Series: I CORINTHIAN SERIES Scripture Title: A Sure Foundation Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬-‭19‬ ‭NIV‬ “By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames. Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”;” Sermon Summary: The foundation of what you're building your life on matters. The foundation for any Christian and for the church is Jesus Christ. It begins with believing that Jesus is the son of God who died on the cross for your sins and was resurrected, and then putting your faith in him and becoming his follower. This basic faith in Christ is what anchors every life of every believer and it anchors every church that belongs to Christ. People can choose to build their lives on other foundations. Some people choose family and sometimes family isn’t dependable and can let you down. Some build their life on a career which may not last very long. Some choose other philosophies and other religions as their foundation and maybe they help for awhile, but they're not the true source of integrity and strength. The only true bedrock is Jesus Christ. All who desire to build a life that will last and weather the storms of the life choose faith in Christ as their foundation for living. And as a church, Christ is at the core of all we do. On top of this foundation, the rest of our life in Christ is built up. Paul says we can either build with garbage, wood, hay, and stubble, or we can build with value, gold, silver, and costly stones. In the first instance, wood, hay, and stubble, a person comes to faith in Jesus, but instead of living for Christ, they live to themselves. Paul says, "Don't build your life with garbage that won't last and that will fall apart. Build with excellent material that matches that superb foundation in Jesus." If you have a foundation of faith in Christ, add regular worship as part of your life. Weave the words of God into the fabric of your life and of your heart. Make God's Word a part of who you are. Tell others about Jesus and disciple them. Serve in the church and further the kingdom of heaven. This is the gold and silver that's going to strengthen your life in Christ. “Wisdom of the Spirit“ Sermon. Sunday, 5/03/2026.

Cultural Christian Doing what comes natural Spiritual translator Knowledge and Wisdom Scripture Series: I CORINTHIAN SERIES Scripture Title: Wisdom of the Spirit Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians‬ ‭2‬:‭6‬-‭16‬ “We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him— these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.” Sermon Summary: When non-believers are faced with spiritual wisdom and truths from God’s Word, they cannot understand what is being communicated. It’s like a foreign language to them.  They need a spiritual translator to understand the wisdom and principles of God. When you put your faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit takes up residence within you.  The Holy Spirit works to transform you from the inside out. Your desires begin to change to what God desires, and you no longer live by the flesh but by the guiding of the Holy Spirit. When we have the Holy Spirit, you are able to discern right from wrong and good from evil. The Holy Spirit makes God’s wisdom and truths accessible to your heart and mind. The process isn’t instantaneous. As you study God’s Word and apply it, you are building Godly wisdom within you, and the Holy Spirit urges you to do things God’s way. There are many brilliant unbelievers who are full of worldly knowledge, but they do not have the spirit of God and are not wise. They are blind to God’s truths and they lack discernment. As Christians, we need to be prepared to be misunderstood by our unbelieving neighbors. We should expect non-believers to act like unspiritual people because their hearts have not been changed. As a follower of Jesus, God has equipped you to be his servant, his light in the darkness. You are able to see the world as God sees it because of His Spirit. You have what you need to carry out the mission that God has planned for you.  In Him, you lack nothing.  Lewes Presbyterian Church Website [https://lewespresbyterianchurch.org/] Lewes Presbyterian Church YouTube Channel [https://www.youtube.com/@LewesPresbyterian/streams]
