Payday Lenders Targeting Black Pastors & Civil Rights Organizations

Payday lenders are companies that lend customers small amounts of money at high-interest rates with the agreement that the borrower will pay that money back. In Florida, payday lenders are preying on Black pastors and Civil Rights organizations and continue to expand their business as they hurt people. Roland Martin talks with Rev. Sekinah Hamlin, Director, Faith & Credit Roundtable with the Center for Responsible Lending (CRL) about the influence of Payday Loans on African-Americans. “It’s based on a business model that goes against biblical teaching that robs the poor just because they are poor,” explained Hamlin. “Introduced a new product in Florida in which there would be even more interest and targeted some Black pastors and some of our civil rights organization but it must be noted that in it of itself it is a part of the predatory model.”

Roland Martin: Dems Should Say ‘We Ain’t Voting For Nothing Unless There Is A Clean DACA Bill’

On Martin Luther King Jr. day Jorge Garcia stood in the Detroit Michigan Airport in tears as he hugged his sobbing family members. After 30 years of being in the United States, he was being deported to Mexico, a country he doesn’t know. The problem surrounding immigration and DACA has continued to rise and this situation is no different as the cry for change gets louder. Roland Marin talks with Rochelle Riley of the Detroit Free Press on what needs to happen. “Because he’s too old for DACA they decided that he needed to be deported,” explained Riley. “This is not deportation this is a prison sentence to take this man from his family. To leave them without the breadwinner.”
