episode Meditation for Anxiety: Finding Calm Through the Senses cover

Description

In this meditation, I guide you through a practice designed especially for moments of anxiety and stress. At times of anxiety, it can become difficult to settle into stillness or even to use the breath as a reliable anchor, as the breath itself is often affected by stress and emotional tension. This meditation introduces an alternative approach, using the senses as anchors for awareness and calm. We begin by grounding ourselves gently in the body and the present moment before moving through practices of touch, smell, taste and hearing. Rather than trying to fight anxiety or force calmness, the meditation encourages you to reconnect with the simple immediacy of sensory experience, allowing awareness to become steadier and more spacious. Through conscious attention to physical sensation and sound, the practice offers a practical way to remain grounded even during difficult emotional moments. The meditation gently reminds us that calm and presence remain accessible, even when the mind feels unsettled. This meditation offers support during stressful or anxious periods, helping you cultivate grounding, calm and emotional steadiness. This meditation supports anxiety relief, grounding and sensory awareness. Body Awareness Meditation: Deepening Your Anchor in the Body (Repost)

In this meditation, I guide you into a simple practice of deepening your awareness of the body as an anchor into the present moment. We begin by checking in with the body and noticing what it is like to sit, bringing attention to the points of contact with the ground and the physical sensations of being here. From there, awareness moves more closely into the body, focusing on subtle sensations in the hands, arms and chest. You are invited to explore these sensations with curiosity, noticing even the smallest movements and changes. Through this practice, the body becomes a place of steady awareness. By gently returning to a single point of sensation whenever distraction arises, you can anchor yourself more fully in the present moment. As awareness deepens, a sense of steadiness and gratitude begins to emerge, grounded in the simple experience of being in the body. This meditation offers a moment of calm, whether you are pausing during the day or winding down before sleep, helping you feel more present, aware and connected. This meditation supports body awareness, grounding and focus. Meditation on the Natural World: The Wisdom of Birds

In this guided Christian meditation, Brother Richard continues his Meditations on the Natural World series by reflecting on the wisdom of birds and the spiritual lessons they offer. Drawing on the ancient Christian contemplative tradition—especially the wisdom of the early Desert Fathers and the Franciscan way of seeing creation—this meditation invites us to observe the birds of the air as teachers of faith, freedom, trust and community. From the fledgling learning to fly, to migrating swallows, soaring eagles and silent owls, each reveals something about our own spiritual journey. As we contemplate the beauty and purpose of creation, we are reminded that the natural world is more than something to admire—it is a living scripture that can deepen our awareness of God's presence and transform the way we live. Whether you're seeking peace, relief from stress and anxiety, or a deeper appreciation of God's presence in creation, this meditation offers a gentle path into stillness, gratitude and contemplative prayer. Perfect for daily Christian meditation, mindful prayer, relaxation, preparing for restful sleep, or reconnecting with the beauty of the natural world. As we reflect on our place within creation, we are reminded that we are not separate from nature but part of it—called to live with reverence, thankfulness and care for the earth entrusted to us. Whether you are seeking a peaceful start to your day, relief from stress and anxiety, or a deeper awareness of God's presence in the natural world, this meditation offers a gentle path into stillness, gratitude and contemplation. episode Meditation Chant: Maranatha (Come, Lord) artwork

Meditation Chant: Maranatha (Come, Lord)

In this guided Christian meditation, Brother Richard explores the ancient practice of sacred chant through one of the oldest prayers in the Christian tradition: Maranatha, the Aramaic phrase meaning "Come, Lord." Found at the close of the New Testament, Maranatha has been used for centuries as a contemplative prayer, helping Christians enter into stillness, deepen awareness of God's presence, and cultivate inner peace. In this meditation, the sacred mantra is first repeated silently, then gently chanted, allowing its rhythm and resonance to work alongside the breath to quiet the mind and open the heart. Sacred chanting has long been recognised across the world's contemplative traditions as a powerful aid to meditation. Whether you're seeking relief from stress and anxiety, looking for a peaceful way to end your day, or hoping to deepen your Christian prayer life, this simple practice offers a timeless path into silence, presence and divine love. This episode is suitable for daily meditation, moments of reflection, prayer, relaxation, or preparing for restful sleep. Meditation Master: Robert Lax and Present Moment Awareness

In this meditation, Brother Richard introduces Robert Lax—the poet, mystic and close friend of Thomas Merton—whose quiet spirituality centred on paying loving attention to the present moment. Drawing on Lax's gentle approach to contemplation, this meditation explores how mindfulness grows not through striving, but through simple awareness. By returning again and again to the senses, the breath and the present moment, we discover that every moment can become a place of encounter with divine grace. Whether you're new to meditation or returning to your practice, this session offers a peaceful way to cultivate presence, attention and openness to God in everyday life.
