In which the sculptor Kenyon discovers a hidden chapel within the ancient villa of Monte Beni and encounters the pale and mournful Miriam, whose restless spirit longs for a purpose to reconcile her troubled heart with Donatello’s distant affection. Amidst the resplendent marble hall, they discourse on love, penance, and the hope that fresh scenes and tender sacrifice might yet revive a life overshadowed by sorrow and estrangement.
