episode 2023 Bordeaux cover

Description

Our annual Bordeaux show. With the release of the 2023 vintage, we find one of the warmest vintages, with plenty of rain and late season heat, creating uneven vineyard challenges. The wines varied in quality and style but were balanced with moderate alcohol, fresh acidity and more of a mid-weight body. The 2023’s will be readily drinkable and priced fairly, but not to the level of the ’16, ’19, ’20, and ’22 vintages. Keep in mind, each region and varietal had their own unique circumstances.  We spoke with Count Stephan von Neipperg from Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere [https://gaffeliere.com/] in St. Emillion, Aline Baly from Chateau Coutet in Barsac [https://www.chateaucoutet.com/en/], Alexander van Beek from Chateau Giscours in Margaux [https://giscours.com/en/wine/chateau-giscours/], Julien Barthe from Chateau Beau Sejour Becot [https://vins-saint-emilion.com/en/castle/chateau-beau-sejour-becot-2/] in St Emillion, Sara Lecompte Cuvelier from Chateau Leoville Poyferre [https://www.leoville-poyferre.fr/en/] in Saint Julien, and Kinou Cazes Hachemian from Chateau Lynch Bages in Paulillac [https://www.lynchbages.com/en/]. episode The Occhipinti's Le Fontane artwork

The Occhipinti's Le Fontane

This week we talk to Giusto Occhipinti [https://www.instagram.com/giustoocchipinti] and his two sons, Paolo and Giovanni.  You can’t talk about thoughtful and natural winemaking in Sicily without a discussion of Giusto’s early influence in the Vittoria region at his COS winery. Paolo and Giovanni grew up around their dad in the vineyards with an understanding and respect of the soil. They followed their father in making wine, but now at their own project, La Fontane, an exciting new winery interpreting the soils and indigenous grapes of Sicily practicing organics and Biodynamics. We are talking to Paolo and Giovanni in NYC at their US importer, T. Edwards and a few days later with Giusto and Giovanni back in Sicily. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Marco Balsimelli

This week we talk to Marco Balsimelli [http://instagram.com/marco_balsimelli]. Marco recently assumed the role of Production Director at two of the world’s most revered and critically acclaimed wines, Ornellaia [https://www.ornellaia.com/en/] and Masseto [https://www.masseto.com/en/], Super Tuscans on the Bolgheri Coast in Italy. Marco studied oenology and viticulture in Florence and Bordeaux cutting his teeth at Gruaud Larose in St. Julien. He consulted for some of Bordeaux’s most notable Chateau and brought his expertise of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot back to his Tuscan farming roots with the Frescobaldi Family. He oversees the stylistic and technical decisions along with vineyard and cellar strategies for Ornellaia and Masseto. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. episode Alex Moreau artwork

Alex Moreau

This week we talk to Alex Moreau [http://instagram.com/domainealexmoreau]. Burgundy does not have to be inaccessible, expensive and confusing. Five generations of Moreau’s have been making wines in Burgundy dating back to 1809. Alex's father, famed winemaker Bernard Moreau took over the family winery in the ‘60’s making reds and mostly stunning white wines in Chassagne Montrachet in the Cote de Beaune. Alex joined his father at Domaine Bernard Moreau in the mid ‘90’s and transitioned to his own label in 2021. Alex Moreau is one of the leading modern white Burgundy makers today. His move towards precision, age-ability and terroir transparency is a departure from richer and more manipulated wines of the region, but still delivering opulent, sensual, and pure wines. Drink more Chassagne Montrachet! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. episode The 76 Redo artwork

The 76 Redo

The 76 Redo [https://www.instagram.com/the76redo/] idea came about from winemaker Patrick Cappiello [https://www.patrickcappiello.com/] a few years ago during the beginning of tough times for the wine industry and the idea that “people need to support American wine more”. He came up with his vision to recreate the legendary Paris Tasting of 1976, an event that changed modern wine. The 76 Redo started with hundreds upon hundreds of wine submissions, dozens of judges and now, a finale in NYC with 40 wines spanning four varietals including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc and Syrah. Five wines from the US and five wines from France. A diverse group of 12 judges will select the final wines. We’ll talk to Patrick, the judges and list their final selections. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com [https://pcm.adswizz.com] for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
