Kuvaus

An 85-year-old driver and his passenger escaped uninjured after their car plunged into a neighbour's backyard pool in Grays Point, south of Sydney. The incident occurred just before 7pm when the elderly man was reversing up a driveway to realign his vehicle, accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, and drove straight through a fence into the pool. Neighbours and witnesses rushed to help pull the couple from the water, and the uninsured vehicle is being craned out as part of a major cleanup operation. Aussie households set energy-saving house rules

Two in five Australian households, approximately 8.1 million people, have implemented house rules to manage soaring energy costs, with a further 20 per cent planning to do so as winter approaches. Common strategies include switching off lights when leaving rooms, reducing heating and cooling times, taking shorter hot showers, and turning off appliances at the power point rather than leaving them on standby. Simple changes like using electric blankets at four cents per hour instead of gas heaters at up to three dollars per hour can save households hundreds of dollars annually, with energy price changes scheduled for 1 July potentially increasing costs further.
