Kuvaus

Jesse Thompson joins the Act Blur Paint Longer podcast. Jesse is a multi-disciplinary fine artist based in Singapore. I first came to know him from his award-winning sculptures. For 10 years, he has taught figure drawing at NTU's School of Art Design and Media (ADM). He's seen how ADM's pedagogy has shifted over a decade, and he's influenced hundreds of students in Singapore. We discuss how his own eclectic fine-arts education informs how he teaches. Foundational Drawing becomes a central discussion point in the later part of the interview. We debate over how applicable it is to creative pursuits that aren't fine art related. Lastly, we talk about the state of drawing in the age of generative artificial intelligence. I hope to interview many such under-rated artists in Singapore. Many artists here create genuine works of art and are influential in meaningful ways. Yet very few get critical recognition and institutional support.
