jakson ICE in Boulder County: DA issues guidance on what to do if they show up kansikuva

ICE in Boulder County: DA issues guidance on what to do if they show up

ICE in Boulder County: DA issues guidance on what to do if they show up ICE is present in Boulder County and has detained local residents, Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said in a February interview.  At the time, Dougherty said ICE activity could increase if Trump targets Colorado for opposing his policies. Now, a Congressional inquiry has been opened in Boulder County, with the federal government sending letters to the DA [https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/2026-05-20-jdj-tm-to-boulder-county-district-attorney-dougherty.pdf], Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson [https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/2026-05-20-jdj-tm-to-boulder-county-sheriff-s-office-johnson.pdf] and City of Boulder police [https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/2026-05-20-jdj-tm-to-boulder-police-dept-redfearn.pdf] requesting a vast amount of records and documentation. Arrests are the highest in 10 years, but just 37% of people detained by ICE have a criminal record, according to new research from CU Boulder economists [https://www.colorado.edu/today/2026/02/18/ice-arrests-reach-record-highs-percent-criminal-record-plummets]. Another study from CU Boulder found that ICE activity harms the local economy and takes away job opportunities [https://www.colorado.edu/today/2026/05/04/heightened-ice-enforcement-harms-us-born-workers-shrinks-workforce] for immigrants and American men. Know your rights Citizens and non-citizens are legally allowed to: * Film + record ICE activity * Decline to answer questions about immigration status Learn more and request a Know Your Rights presentation [https://bouldercounty.gov/district-attorney/know-your-rights-in-colorado/] If ICE shows up:  * Ask if you can leave. If they say yes, walk away. * Don’t let them into a home or non-public facing area of a business without a warrant signed by a judge * Call 911, Dougherty recommends: “If they observe anyone — including federal agents — violating criminal laws, they will intervene. That is a commitment by Boulder County law enforcement.” * Call Colorado Rapid Response Network [https://coloradorapidresponsenetwork.com/] (CORNN) which tracks + verifies ICE encounters and provides resources Non-citizens should carry documentation on them, Dougherty recommends, and fill out a preparedness packet like the one provided by Boulder County [https://assets.bouldercounty.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/family-preparedness-know-your-rights-english-boulder-county.pdf]

Flocking to dystopia, Part 2: Bill to regulate tech fails in Colorado Capitol

FLOCKING TO DYSTOPIA, PART 2: BILL TO REGULATE TECH FAILS IN COLORADO CAPITOL Friday, May 22, 2026 First Thing: Thread video that went viral last week https://www.threads.com/@mikenetson/post/DYVnK16kY5O/be-aware-beware/ [https://www.threads.com/@mikenetson/post/DYVnK16kY5O/be-aware-beware/] Eyes Off Colorado: Local cybersecurity experts push back against Flock license plate readers “Right now, it's completely unfettered access to the location and personal privacy of every Coloradan.” – Andrew Gentry, Golden-based cybersecurity professional A bill to regulate Flock and its fleet of Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPRs) cameras died in the Colorado Senate. Sponsor Judy Amabile of Boulder said her fellow lawmakers wouldn’t vote for even the simplest regulations amid harsh opposition from law enforcement. Read more from The Colorado Sun [https://coloradosun.com/2026/04/29/senate-bill-70-lay-over-colorado-surveillance-technology/]. After this development, we’re releasing our full interview with Andrew Gentry, quoted above. In it, Gentry outlines his concerns with the technology itself and with Flock in particular, including * Flock’s documented security vulnerabilities: “ When companies are actively trying to hide their flaws or silence people asking questions, that's usually a sign that there's some kind of other interest involved or negligence or laziness or some combination of the three.” * They’re collecting a lot more than just pictures of our license plates, Gentry says: facial recognition, age, race, etc. Every time you pass a camera, data is collected… * …. And sold to private companies that train AI models on it. Those companies then sell products back to police, promising to “solve crime with the click of a button” and, even scarier, predict who will commit a crime before it happens. Learn more + get involved Gentry founded Eyes Off Colorado [https://www.eyesoffcolorado.org/] to raise awareness about local use of Flock cameras. The organization grades communities using Flock based on their policies around transparency, data storage and sharing and the amount of cameras in the community.
