Whats Free?

My name is Rebekkah, me  & my friend Ben  will discuss some of the limitations that impact African American's in the context of black freedom. I am going to be asking various questions relating to the issue of what is really considered free in this country and are there special limitations put in place for minorities .  You will hear a brief synopsis form Toni Morrison on racism as well as a piece from Ta-Nehisi  Coates on the use of the N-word. To sum it all up you hear from a Black protest hip hop artist Joey badass- Land of the Free.  Whats Free?  (Time Stamps) Introduction (0.01) What’s Free (0.17) How might the promise of American pluralism be fulfilled- so that public policy is about equally responsive to each groups view? (0.45) Can you tell me what your experience feels like as a white person attending an HBCU? (3.28) Being white gives you an advantage in society, to what extent? (8.48) What do you feel are the main reasons for systemic racism in this country? (10.47) Give me an example of how being white gives you an advantage in society and to what extent? (12.27) Have you ever used the word “Nigger” why or why not? (14.48) How do you feel when you hear black people use it to speak to each other? (14.48) Ta-Nehisi Coates has an incredibly clear explanation for why white people shouldn’t use the n-word (18.09) What are the limits of political representation/participation as related to black freedom? (18.52) Conclusion Toni Morrison- Powerful words on racism (20.40) Joey Badass- Land of The Free (21.17)
