Chu On This!
In this episode of Chu on This!, Dr. Katie W. Chu welcomes longtime colleague, Vision Source leader, and optometrist Dr. Bobby "Chip" Wood for a heartfelt conversation about stewardship, leadership, resilience, gratitude, and what it truly means to build a meaningful life. Recorded during the Vision Source Exchange in Nashville, the discussion begins with Chip reflecting on his role as an educator, practice owner, and advocate for antibiotic stewardship. What starts as a conversation about patient care soon expands into a richer discussion about mentoring others, leaving a legacy, and helping the next generation thrive. Chip shares his journey from a young boy inspired by his own optometrist to becoming the owner of two successful practices in Texas. Along the way, he reflects on the mentors who invested in him and the responsibility he now feels to invest in others. Katie shares her own journey of resilience, including surviving childhood abuse, navigating divorce, overcoming breast cancer, and rebuilding both her life and practice through every new season. Together, they explore how the definition of success changes over time. While early career goals often revolve around achievement and financial milestones, later seasons of life reveal that purpose is rooted in relationships, mentorship, gratitude, creativity, and the impact we have on others. The conversation also reveals another side of both guests. Chip shares his lifelong passion for music, drumming, and musical theatre, while Katie discusses rediscovering her creativity through writing children's books, podcasting, and launching new initiatives designed to inspire leadership and personal growth. Throughout the episode, both Katie and Chip speak candidly about failure, starting over, embracing change, and finding joy in helping others become the best version of themselves. This episode is a powerful reminder that legacy is not built in one defining moment. It is built through thousands of everyday decisions to serve, encourage, create, and leave people better than you found them. Key Takeaways Success evolves into significance Career accomplishments eventually give way to a deeper understanding of success through relationships, mentorship, service, and the lives we help shape.
