Supporting the Mission

The Detention and Records Departments are critical functions of the Tempe Police Department, and play a vital role in the criminal justice system, ensuring that accurate and timely records are maintained, and that those who are detained receive safe and appropriate care. In this episode, we join a father-daughter duo, Sgt. Shawn Parlich and Gianna Parlich, to discuss the importance of proper documentation and data management in law enforcement, the training and education required for those working in Detention and Records, and how they work closely with other departments within the Tempe Police Department and with external agencies to ensure that accurate and timely information is shared.

Partnerships that Forge Relationships

At the Tempe Police Department, we place great emphasis on the Three C’s: Community Policing, Community Engagement, and Collaborative Leadership. All Three C’s involve building strong alliances within the community, focusing on trust and legitimacy. We join Sgt. Hector Encinas, Retired DPS Captain Marcia Johnson, and Community Affairs Specialist Lisa Groom to discuss the partnerships the Tempe Police Department has made with the community, with a spotlight on N.O.B.L.E. and A.B.L.E., the Arizona Women’s Initiative Network (AZWIN), and the Tempe Black Employee Alliance.

Engaging with the Community

Building trust and strong relationships with our community is essential to effective policing. That’s why our School Resource Officers and Office of Community Policing team is committed to engaging with community members to address concerns and build strong partnerships. We join Detective Natalie Barela and Community Affairs Specialist Molly Enright to discuss how they personally engage one-on-one with members of the Tempe community. From questions on an incident that occurred in the neighborhood, providing guidance to youth in schools, or addressing concerns with parents, the Tempe Police Department is here to engage with you.

Innovation in Technology and Communications

The Tempe Police Department is committed to using cutting-edge technology to enhance the services that we provide to the community. In this episode, we join Rodney Collazo and Dell Webb to discuss the innovations of the Tempe Police Department to advance the field of emergency communications from computer-aided dispatch (CAD), Text-to-911, and the implementation of drones to assist in community safety.

Collaboration of Care

The CARE 7 program is a trauma informed crisis response team provided by the City of Tempe composed of professionals who provide high-quality on-scene intervention and victim services. When dispatched by Tempe Police and/or Tempe Fire Medical Rescue, CARE 7 will respond to incidents including domestic violence, serious auto accidents, sexual and physical assaults and more. In this episode, you’ll hear from Sergeant Ron Elcock and CARE 7 Supervisor Anastasia Stinchfield from CARE 7 as they discuss the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and mental health professionals in responding to sensitive cases.
