Kuvaus

I'm trying out an episode title. Turns out it's a bit tricky. So far, these are free-range conversations; we never seem to settle into a single topic. Right now there’s just too much outrage to go around. Nonetheless, we have an excellent episode for you! To start, you get to meet the new guy! Jim's a retired professor, local activist, and former mayoral candidate in upstate New York. He's a terrific addition to the team. Our discourse starts with Chuck Schumer and the potential government shutdown then tackles the erosion of norms and the rule of law. We pass through people being disappeared and consider what Jon calls “government by personal favor.” This is the antithesis of what America is supposed to stand for and makes the executive branch an engine for corruption. We eventually wind up at role of empathy and compassion in government. Plus a lot more in between. You’ll have to listen to get the whole journey! Let’s go!

Democracy at the End of the Universe Episode 2

The Trump Administration's relentless dismantling of the Federal Government raises the question: Is this just ideological? "Smaller Government" has been a Republican mantra throughout our lifetimes. Meanwhile, a hell of a lot of money is changing hands. We explore the question, and Jon shares what Senator Chris Murphy has to say [https://www.murphy.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/murphy-six-weeks-in-this-white-house-is-on-its-way-to-being-the-most-corrupt-in-us-history] about the corruption endemic to the whole process. And what do we need from the Democratic Party? More than what we're getting, that's for sure. Plus a coda about Mahmoud Khalil. This time, it's just Jon and Joseph, but we're expecting a third team member in episode three.

Democracy at the End of the Universe Episode 1

We're concerned about the future of the United States of America and we need to speak out even if no one is listening. In our first episode Jon and Joseph begin the discussion, joined by Jon's Fiancée and newly-minted US Citizen, Marlene Ponce de León. A bit later, we're joined by former NFL player Chris Kluwe. He can be seen here [https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/21/politics/video/chris-kluwe-maga-plaque-arrest-interview-digvid] speaking truth to power, protesting an homage to the MAGA movement at the Huntington Beach Public Library, and, as he puts it, "engaging in the time-honored American tradition of peaceful civil disobedience." Please join us on our journey! Also, keep an eye out for more content as our little project here evolves into its final form. And a quick note. We don't think this content is explicit, but there is some swearing. If you care about such things you know what to do.
