What she takes with her when she walks out will change the shape of everything the group thought they understood about what the Iron Nexus is actually building toward the Grove. When the explosion hits and the fallout settles, the group faces something more fracturing than fire. A betrayal inside the Grove sends shockwaves through the alliance at the worst possible moment, and Jarika finds herself asked to step back from the place she came to protect. What follows is a moment that tests every relationship in the circle and quietly defines them. People show who they are not through declarations but through the small, certain choices they make when it would be easier to stay quiet. Jarika and Moab return to the city to find Maizen already waiting, carrying more than any of them expected. The reunion is honest and complicated in the way that reunions between people who have each done something hard and alone tend to be. What Maizen brings to the table, literally, reframes the threat against the Grove and gives the group something they did not have before: evidence, and a path back. By the time night settles over Lunar Innovations City, no crisis has been resolved. But something has shifted. The Hive thread is fuller, the circle is holding, and the document on the table points toward the Grove council and a version of the truth that needs correcting. They stay in the office. A narrow traverse along the eastern spine tests every member of the crew, none more than Jarika, whose footing gives way on loose shale and nearly costs her everything. Atlas is there, steady and exact, pulling her back from the edge. The Vaelkin appears on the ridge above them without warning or explanation, and the group stands in rare collective silence, watching something older than language move through its own territory and disappear. Sky Forge reveals itself slowly, the way it reveals everything. The summit structures alone would stop most people in their tracks, stacked glacial domes inlaid with Molten Frost, ice castles built at the seam between stone and glacier, walkways running the plateau like a circulatory system grown over centuries. But it is the gate that leaves the deepest mark, dark columns carved in an unbroken record of a people writing for someone not yet born, worn smooth at hand height by thousands of returns. The reunion between Atlas and Ryker carries its own weight. He lifts her off the ground and she lets him, which tells the group more about her than three days on the mountain has. His family receives everyone with the particular warmth of people who practice hospitality as a matter of course and expect nothing in return, and Jonnie's stew, started that morning, does what no amount of planning or preparation had managed to do. It restores them. Mercer gathers the group around the bonfire after dinner and lays out what he has spent a year mapping: theta does not behave the same way in every enclave. In the Moons it does not ask, it opens. In Sky Forge, the Theta Frost pendants are not artifacts but something the mountain grew for its own people, and when that channel opens, the weave returns with it. Orion stops writing. Fae and Narie confirm what they have not yet said aloud: during a combat drill, Faelyn gave an order she did not speak, and every Moon on the line moved as one. What comes next reframes the entire descent. Narie lays out the encryption layer buried in the Grove's primary defense architecture, keyed to a biosignature that is not one of theirs. Mercer traces it back to a thumbprint on a waiver, a casual ask in a corridor, Osarian's name arriving in the firelight like a stone settling wrong underfoot. He placed it. He reported it.
