Kuvaus

Twenty years ago, a handful of city employees who loved cars started a cruise downtown. When they moved on, a small car club with no membership fee and a "come to two meetings, you're in" policy picked it up rather than let it die. Now the New Limited Rods of Western Illinois run River 2 River — 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 18, in downtown Galesburg — with about a dozen volunteers, and hand out more vocational scholarship money than anyone else standing at the podium. Greg "Chops" Bacon and Don Rosenberry explain the 20-year story, the student-built Cobra rolling in Saturday, and the actual meaning of "power parking." Greg "Chops" Bacon and Don Rosenberry joined Galesburg In Focus. Listen to the full interview above. They talked about: When and where: 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 18, downtown Galesburg How River 2 River got its name, and why it almost didn't survive The club's $1,000 scholarships, and why Bacon says nobody else is giving them A student-built Cobra kit car making its downtown debut What "power parking" actually means, and why you should get there early The club's other beneficiaries, from the VFW to a tumbling team   Related story: 'We're the only ones': car club's scholarships fill a gap no one else covers 🎧 Subscribe to Galesburg In Focus on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
