Ivy EdTalk
Mathematics is such a tricky subject to introduce to children, but one cannot argue about how integral it is to learn. But because so much of this subject is essentially abstract, the way in which it is taught can make or break the child's reaction to the subject itself. These are all the things that we had in our minds when we were setting up the curriculum for The Ivy School, and we found the answer to all our worries in the form of Singapore Math - the world's learning curriculum in mathematics education, originally developed for Singapore's own National Curriculum, but now widely adopted by schools across the globe. Singapore Math manages to address all the problems students have faced in the acquisition of mathematical knowledge for decades, and reinvents the entire approach to make it more accessible worldwide. Since its implementation, we have seen the benefits of this curriculum on our own students as well. This week, we have had the immense pleasure of conversing with Dr. Yeap Ban Har, whose achievements in education have been massive, particularly towards the development of Singapore Math - which is why he is also often referred to as the Michael Jordan of Singapore Math! Join us as we explore a world where learning mathematics can actually be fun - where we learn how this curriculum was created, what makes it different, and how it helps in combating math anxiety!
