In today’s Live With the Times, we begin Parshat Vaeschanan with the 1st aliyah and Moshe Rabbeinu’s plea to enter Eretz Yisrael. Vaeschanan comes from the language of asking Hashem for a free gift. Even tzaddikim, who have many merits, do not come to Hashem demanding payment for their deeds. They come with humility, asking Hashem for mercy, compassion, and an undeserved gift. But they can also quietly pull a person away from his mission.
