He had gone out the night before for one drink only — which became five — at the Long Hall, and somewhere in that companionable haze he agreed to help a mild, wire-spectacled young man named Eamon. By morning, Eamon has not gone home. A witness swears he saw Eamon step through the Drury Street door of the covered market just before ten, in his dark overcoat, minutes before violence in the vaults below. But the coat Eamon was wearing was not his own — and the man who lent it, Ronan Kellett, narrow-faced and composed, with very pale grey eyes, has a habit of turning up wherever Arthur happens to be. To clear his friend, Arthur must prove the whole case rests on a witness who saw a coat and never a face, and admit that the fifth pint did not stop him noticing the frayed cuff, only from realising, in time, what it meant. The Man Who Missed Last Orders is an original Golden Age-style mystery of mistaken identity, borrowed coats, and a quiet Dublin agency learning its trade, part of the Arthur, Anne and Pip mysteries. ℹ️ FOR LISTENERS This is an original Golden Age-style mystery presented as a respectful homage to classic detective fiction. All characters and events in this story are fictional. No affiliation, endorsement, or official connection is implied. 💬 QUESTION FOR THE COMMENTS A witness swore he saw the man — but he really only saw the coat. How often do we "recognise" someone from a hat, an overcoat, a walk, and never once look at the face? 🕵️ 🕒 CHAPTERS 00:00 Introduction 01:25 Chapter I: The Unreasonable Morning 13:27 Chapter II: One Drink Only 25:59 Chapter III: The Borrowed Coat 37:54 Chapter IV: The Man in the Mirror 50:44 Chapter V: Behind the Shutters 1:04:22 Chapter VI: The Coat on the Wrong Man 1:16:42 Epilogue: The Other Desk 📖 GET THE EBOOK — $3.99 📌 Patreon — included with Writing Table & Archive Society, or one-time purchase https://www.patreon.com/posts/156573383 🛒 Gumroad — EPUB + PDF included https://nocturnaltalespod.gumroad.com/l/ebookvol2 ❤️ Buy Me a Coffee — EPUB + PDF included https://buymeacoffee.com/nocturnaltales/e/532495 ❤️ SUPPORT & LISTENING OPTIONS 📌 Patreon — ad-free, early access, bonus content https://www.patreon.com/NocturnalTales 📺 Rumble — free, supports us with ad revenue https://rumble.com/c/c-7820714 ❤️ Buy Me a Coffee — one-time support https://buymeacoffee.com/nocturnaltales 💛 PayPal — one-time tip https://paypal.me/nocturnaltalesprod 🎧 Spotify — follow the show https://open.spotify.com/show/0OQ7OEseXIMbMt2NTI7oHy 🎧 Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/nocturnal-tales-mystery-audiobooks-and-crime-stories/id1896195848 🧾 CREDITS Written by Nocturnal Tales.
