Why would a good God let his brand new church be struck with persecution, prison and death before it had barely drawn breath? In this message Linda Bailey opens Acts 8:1-8, where the death of Stephen gives way to fierce persecution, and asks the question every one of us eventually faces: why does God allow suffering? Linda contrasts the Western, Eastern and Christian ways of reading our pain, and lands on the difference that changes everything: we worship a God who is both sovereign and suffering. He has a plan we cannot always see, and he has gone to the cross himself, so that when we suffer he understands and comes alongside us. Remarkably, in just eight verses, persecution gives way to great joy in a whole city. Part of our Acts series at One Church. 👉 To get questions for small group discussions on this sermon, check out our blog at https://one.org.au/blog/sovereign-and-suffering Connect with us: WEBSITE: https://one.org.au INSTAGRAM: / one._church FACEBOOK: / churchone We pray that this message was an encouragement for you. Faith That Works - Tim Horman

What if the place where you spend most of your waking hours, your job, is exactly where Jesus most wants to meet you? In part two of his message on disciple-making, Tim Horman opens up Jesus' Great Commission in Matthew 28 and asks a question the church rarely talks about: how do we connect the faith we experience on a Sunday to the ordinary work we do Monday to Friday? Drawing on Dallas Willard, Tim challenges us to stop living two separate lives and to see our everyday work, our homes and our friendships as the primary places where we learn to live as Jesus would. The pressure is off, because the same Jesus who holds all authority promises to be with us always. Stories from Cambodia - The Honeybuns

What if God's mission isn't reserved for a few extraordinary people, but is something every one of us is invited into right where we are? In this conversation for our OneCare Mission Month, our Missions Pastor Carly Cassidy welcomes Adam and Kate Honeybun home from Cambodia, where they serve with Pioneers at Hope International School in Phnom Penh. Their journey began with what Adam calls a "silly prayer" and a string of open doors that moved their whole family across the world. But the real challenge of their story is closer to home: God uses ordinary skills and everyday jobs for his mission, and the question for all of us is simply, "who are you loving that is right next to you?" Whether you're called to Cambodia or to Blackburn, all of us are invited in. 👉 To get questions for small group discussions on this sermon, check out our blog at https://one.org.au/blog/stories-from-cambodia Connect with us: WEBSITE: https://one.org.au INSTAGRAM:  / one._church FACEBOOK:  / churchone We pray that this message was an encouragement for you. Stories from the Philippines - Pastor Choi and Pastora Alma

What can God do through a single faithful friendship over 25 years? In this special conversation for our OneCare Mission Month, our Missions Pastor Carly Cassidy sits down with Pastor Choi and Pastora Alma of ACCC in the Philippines to celebrate a quarter of a century of partnership between our two churches. From a grieving young pastor and a tiny house church, to feeding programs now reaching more than 500 children a week and churches planting churches, their stories are the book of Acts unfolding in our own day. This is mission as it was always meant to be: not a solo task, but a shared calling. As Pastor Choi puts it, "you haven't given us crumbs, you shared with us your bread." Mission is something all of us are invited into, together. 👉 To get questions for small group discussions on this sermon, check out our blog at https://one.org.au/blog/stories-from-the-philippines Connect with us: WEBSITE: https://one.org.au INSTAGRAM: / one._church FACEBOOK: / churchone We pray that this message was an encouragement for you. Make Disciples - Tim Horman

What does it actually mean to make disciples? Tim Horman explores Jesus' Great Commission in Matthew 28, challenging us to move from watching others do ministry to becoming empowered agents in God's mission. Even when we don't feel ready, the Holy Spirit can do extraordinary things through ordinary people.
