2 Samuel, Week 16 Day 4: The Power of Running Away Devotional Sometimes the most courageous thing you can do is run. When it comes to sexual temptation, God’s strategy is not to plant your feet and fight—it is to flee. Paul’s command to “flee from sexual immorality” is not a gentle suggestion you can take or leave. It is a battle plan, and it is how you win. We badly overestimate our ability to handle temptation. We think we can dance right up next to the fire and somehow not get burned. Scripture says that confidence is misplaced and foolish. The wise man knows his own limits, and he puts real distance between himself and the thing that would destroy him. That might mean changing your route to work, installing accountability software, ending certain friendships, or staying away from certain places. It might look extreme to the people around you. God calls it wisdom. Remember this: anything you have to hide from other people is something you need to run from. There is no shame in retreat when you are protecting your purity and honoring God. Bible Verse “Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.” — 1 Corinthians 6:18 (ESV) Reflection Question What specific temptations do you need to create more distance from in your life? Quote “And stop saying you are strong enough to handle temptation. You are not. None of us are.” Prayer God, give me the wisdom to recognize when it is time to flee and the courage to run from temptation without looking back.
