Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2391964/fan_mail/new] Welcome to PRIDE month folks!! This week we are bringing you the life of an icon in the queer community.  While not the first trans woman to make waves, Marsha P. Johnson is a woman who fought for anyone's right to exist. She did what she had to do to make ends meet and care for those she loved.  From housing homeless trans youth, to caring for friends dying of AIDS, Marsha was one of the most generous and giving souls to ever grace this planet.   ROH EP 71 Source Notes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsha_P._Johnson [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsha_P._Johnson] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvia_Rivera [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvia_Rivera] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agosto_Machado [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agosto_Machado] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellevue_Hospital [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellevue_Hospital] Thanks for joining us today! Episode 74: Thomas Edison Part 1:

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2391964/fan_mail/new] This week we are looking into the life of a man who is said to be one of the greatest inventors of all time.  Though he holds 1,093 patents to his name, very few of them were actually thing he himself created. Perks of being the boss I guess.  Thomas did start out wanting to make a name for himself as an inventor. He created a couple of things before he got his big break with the phonograph. But his true interest was in creating electricity, and the bulbs to use it with. Edison would pour a lot into this industry, only to walk away when things got to hard.  ROH EP 74 Source Notes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Edison [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Edison] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Paine [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Paine] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phonograph [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phonograph] Thanks for joining us today! Episode 73: The Navajo Long Walks:

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2391964/fan_mail/new] Growing up in North Carolina the Trail of Tears was learned about from an early age. One thing we did not learn about were the long walks the Navajo, or the Dine people, had to endure as well.  Though they are the only nation that has been allowed to return to their lands, albeit less of them, what they endured shaped future generations.  Much like with the Cherokee they faced horrible conditions before they even began their journey. And during the journey they not only had to contend with the conditions, they were also abused by the Army that was escorting them.   ROH EP 73 Source Notes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Walk_of_the_Navajo [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Walk_of_the_Navajo] https://americanindian.si.edu/nk360/navajo/long-walk/long-walk.cshtml [https://americanindian.si.edu/nk360/navajo/long-walk/long-walk.cshtml] https://www.native-americans.org/the-long-walk-of-the-navajo/ [https://www.native-americans.org/the-long-walk-of-the-navajo/] https://www.legendsofamerica.com/na-navajolongwalk/ [https://www.legendsofamerica.com/na-navajolongwalk/] Thanks for joining us today! Episode 72: The Lavender Scare:

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2391964/fan_mail/new] We are continuing our celebration of PRIDE month by looking at a time when the US government was so concerned about Communist infiltrating the government, they went after queer folks.  We can see a direct link between the actions taken by the government, and the way people view the queer community today. Lesbians and gay men were seen as a possible threat to national security and were fired for it.  Today we are still seen as immoral and a threat to the American way of life. McCarthy has a lot to do with that as his ideals from this time are still alive and well.  ROH EP 72 Source Notes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavender_scare Thanks for joining us today! Episode 70: The Crusades Part 3:

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2391964/fan_mail/new] We are finally finishing our look at the Crusades, Holy wars fought by the papacy against, well, anyone they wanted to really.  While they might have started fighting against the Muslims for the, quote unquote, Holy Land, before long people were having petty crusades against each other and other Christian factions.  But by the 1400's a new and more powerful empire was rising, the Ottomans, and the church had bigger issues to contend with.   ROH EP 70 Source Notes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusades [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusades] Thanks for joining us today!
