I Will Always Stand

In a time when celebrity athletes like Colin Kaepernick are refusing to stand for the National Anthem, The Sam Morrison Band responds ...I Will Always Stand! The National Anthem is more than just a song to be played at sporting events. It is the essence of what the foundation of this country was built upon, freedom. The lyrics of the National Anthem were literally written in the midst of blood, death and destruction. It is an eyewitness account of men giving their lives to fight injustice and create a better world for future generations. As the battle raged on, our Nation's very first Military, Police and Firefighters were bleeding and dying, doing their job. They could see the flag. It reminded them of why they were there. It inspired them and gave them hope as it still does for me today. The connection between the "Star Spangled Banner" and our men and women in uniform is undeniable. The National Anthem is literally about them and their sacrifice which has made our country what it has become today. I understand that Kaepernick feels he is also fighting injustice. I understand that this country is not perfect, and that there are many injustices which need to be corrected. Disrespecting the National Anthem is not the proper way to make these changes. It is an insult to everyone that has fought and died for this country. It is disrespectful to the families of the heroes that gave everything so that Kaepernick would have the right to do what he is doing. There are many ways a man with Kaepernick's money and influence can make a difference. Dishonoring our fallen is not one of them. So when Old Glory is flying proud and they strike up the band……I Will Always Stand!
